Teacher, mother and entrepreneur, our young professional for this week, Julia S. Maduro has her plate full with activities that see her hardly having time for herself, but she is dedicated to her jobs and to the duties that are assigned to her as a teacher and business owner.

Our young professional hails from the beautiful community of Cooten Bay, Tortola. Julia is a Teacher and Communication Engagement Coordinator at Cedar International School.

Her responsibilities include instructing the children in the area of Humanities and liaise with various offices, companies and the Ministry of Education to inform and keep the staff, students and parents abreast of current events that takes place within the school and the wider community.

Julia S. Maduro disclosed that teaching was always her desired career and one of her past teacher, the late Mrs Vera Smith, inspired her into this career field.

According to our young professional, she enjoys working with children as well as liaising with the parents and staff about what about what is happening in and around the community.

“I plan to continue teaching and in the near future, it is my dream to work for myself and ultimately serve the BVI community and even beyond,” explained Ms Maduro.

Prior to working at Cedar International School, Ms Maduro worked at various trust companies as a Corporate Administrator.

Education

Julia S. Maduro is a past student of the Bellevue Primary School, now the Joyce Samuel Primary School and then moved on to the BVI High School, now Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS).

After completing high school, Ms Maduro attended the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) where she pursued an Associate’s Degree in General Business and Education with a concentration in General History. She received a certificate in Management with the Certified Management Institute (CMI).

Business Ventures

Our young professional is the proud owner of two businesses: Vitastic Health Store and Sweet Intimates on the main island of Tortola.

According to Mrs Maduro, Vitastic Health Store specialises in providing all natural products such as toothpaste, deodorants, protein powders, teas, vitamins and supplements among many other products.

On the other hand, Sweet Intimates is a lingerie boutique that provides sleepwear, undergarments and items for intimate occasions such as a bridal shower.

Ms Maduro stated that from time to time she has challenges within her two businesses, but with the support of her husband, she keeps focus and never gives up.

“If it wasn’t for my personal Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, I don’t think any of these businesses would be possible. Every time I think about his promises and what I can be rewarded if I stay true and faithful to him, I am ever grateful.”

She continued, “One day, I will be able to look back when I’m an aged woman working for myself and see my child or children carrying on the businesses for their parents.”

Inspiration/Interest

In her spare time, Ms Maduro likes to travel while learning new tasks, meet new people and helping them.

Ms Maduro stated that her inspiration comes from her husband, son, mother and some of her very close friends.

Advice to youth

Our young professional advises young persons to pursue their dreams at all odds.

“If you have a dream, pursue it. Work with your mouth closed and never let anyone speak negative into your life. Furthermore, although you’re beginning may seem small or rough, with faith, determination and a positive mindset you will achieve your goals.”
