Through her company ‘Care for Hair,’ Ms Wilson offers a line of locally made products that helps natural hair lovers and embracers celebrate every kink and curl of what God gave them.

A love for hair

Currently living on the island of Virgin Gorda, in the Virgin Islands (VI), Ms Wilson attended the  BVI Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) School on Tortola where she graduated in 2019 before moving on to H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) to pursue Culinary Arts.

“My hobbies are cooking, playing soccer and also being active with my hands,” she told Virgin Islands News Online (VINO).

Staying true to being active with her hands and a love for hair care, Mrs Wilson also founded the ‘Care for Hair’ Company, alongside her professional studies. 

She told VINO, “My business is basically natural homemade products for all hair types. My business you can say is like a prescription, it heals your hair from whatever fault it has,” our Young Professional said.

According to Ms Wilson, the inspiration to become an entrepreneur came out of her own haircare needs and wanting to use all-natural products.

An important part of going natural with hair care is the use of hair products that are all-natural and free from heavy and harmful chemicals found in more mainstream haircare brands.

“These products help your hair to grow back and makes your hair looks healthy again,” she told VINO.

Dealing care & Customers  

While Ms Wilson goes through the tedious task of even making the products herself, she said it remains an enjoyable experience.

“These products help your hair grow, help with any bald spot and also help with itches,” she said.

One of the difficulties our Young Professional raised; however, is that managing natural hair can be difficult at times, which initially sparked the idea for the business.

She also mentioned that COVID-19 has affected the business due to an inability to make deliveries and an overall decline in sales; however, she remains optimistic that things will pick up.

Parting words

In parting words to youths, our Young Professional said, “My advice to young people is to take risks, believe in yourself and take action.”

She encouraged VI’s entrepreneurs to continue following dreams and not sit and wait for a dream to come to reality, rather to always push for what they want.
