The phase ‘I have a dream’ is one that is stuck in the minds of many as it was made popular by the late great Martin Luther King Jr.; while it is repeated ever so often in almost every sector and attributed to almost every aspect of life one on wonders how seriously it is taken by youths of today.

It may not have been literally uttered out of the lips of our Young Professional Mr Anthony D. George on a regular basis but one thing you can be sure of those words are like recurring decimals in the his heads, in his daily actions as he sets his eye quietly on one day living his dreams.

“My passion, hmm, I love boats, I have a passion for boats and I am currently in the marine field,” said Mr George.

With his heart and eyes well focused, his lips not saying much, as he is known to be a very quiet person, Mr George today wears a smile.

Mr Anthony D. George today holds the position as a Dock Master with the BVI Port Authority, a job he has been in less than one year now. “I had to switch, I just had to switch as the opportunity presented itself and it was pointing in the direction of the things I love the most,” he said in the usual quiet tone of voice.

“I grew up in Pockwood Pond and you would always see boats flying by almost every minute of the day and as a little boy I used to always say boy one day I want to get a boat, one day I want to be a part of a boating community or do something big in the boating industry and that was one of the driving forces that have me where I am today.”

Prior to taking up the job with BVIPA, Anthony worked for some six years in the development planning unit of the VI government system where statistics were the order of the day.

In the early years of his life he was very much into computers and that is the area he thought he would have excelled in as a career but little did he know destiny had his career success path all set on the thing he loved as a hobby.

“I thought I would have been starting my own computer store doing all sorts of things with computers,” but it was while in college he realized, “Nah this isn’t for me.” At that time he had close friends who owned and operated boats. “And I would jump in and they would be showing me, so you do this and so you do that and then I realized that my hands, head and heart was working better there as I caught on to those aspects of thing lightning fast.”

He graduated from the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) in 2012 with a degree in Marine Studies.

“I am going to find the time when it is ripe to move on to higher studies overseas because I want to excel at this to the highest level. Those marine schools are very expensive so I have to take it step at a time, prepare my foundation and that start put up my columns and blocks,” he said.

One of the groundbreaking events that have the potential for him to plaster his foundation is Virgin Island’s (VI) very first Exquisite Boat Show scheduled for May 24, 2014, for which he is playing a coordinating role. He compliments his girlfriend for being what the popular adage says, “Behind every successful man is a strong successful woman” and that’s where he places two women his girlfriend Ms Meslyn M. Allan and his mother Ms Margret George.

Bracketing them are two other women, his two sisters Ms Diamond A. S. Lake and Ms Dianna George. “I consider myself a special and blessed guy being the only boy for my mom, she adores me, and those two girls I have as sisters Diamond and Dianna they are really special to me.”

When it’s all said and done and he needs a bit of relaxation away from the boats and the marine industry, he steps up to a pools table which helps him to relax and recuperate.

He advice to youths especially young men was, “If you have a dream, if you have a vision, try your best to pursue it.” He said that many have been questioning his ability to execute the exquisite boat show to the extent that they could have broken his spirit and cause him to pull back but he did not.

“What the negatives did was to connect with the positive and cause a reaction, one that resulted in something big and today I am saying thanks to the negatives as well. So guys always remember to stay positive and true to your dreams, never let the negative cause you to be negative to your dreams and aspirations, be the positive and great times will happen and remember that Rome wasn’t built in a day, a year, or a decade, it took lots of time.”

He concluded, “Keep trying at your dreams, if you fail try again, if you succeed you definitely build on that success and keep going and take one word along the way where ever life takes you especially with success: “HUMILITY”.
