Third man charged in relation to boat burglaries
Kempest Bailey, of Jost Van Dyke, is to go before the Magistrate’s Court today for allegedly breaking into a vessel at Conch Charters.
Increased patrols by Police in response to the recent rise in boat burglaries have resulted in charges against two other men found in and around the marinas in the Territory. The Criminal Investigations Department and the Crime Prevention Unit have also worked closely with marinas to strengthen security around their compounds and implement new or improved measures to identify trespassers and burglars entering these premises. Officers on Beat and Patrol have also increased land patrols while the Police Marine Branch has increased sea patrols in and around marinas.
Akim Stevens, 23, of no fixed place of abode was arrested on suspicion of burglary after he was identified as a trespasser at the Moorings Marina and Leslie McKenzie, 26, of Huntums Ghut was arrested after he was found near the Hodges Creek Marina with a bag containing a number of items including a pair of latex gloves, knife, a ratchet handle and a number of other tools.
The men were caught in these marinas during the night.
