ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - After four years of operating in St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands, Therapy Works made the decision to branch out and locate its outpatient orthopedic physiotherapy clinic in Tortola after realising the need of its services.

Entrepreneur and Physiotherapist Dr. Jerry Smith is the sole owner of Therapy Works, USVI and newly opened Therapy Works BVI.

Therapy Works BVI had its official opening on June 2, 2012. It is located on Waterfront Drive in the building where Columbian Emeralds had operated from.

After being in operation in St. Thomas since 2007, Dr. Smith stated that he saw the need for his services in the Virgin Islands (VI), specifically Tortola. “I always wanted to serve the people of the BVI.”

The objective of the business is to increase the level of services being rendered to give persons with various ailments an option of where they can receive quality medical services in the Virgin Islands, said Smith.

In an exclusive interview, Dr. Smith stated that after witnessing the physical hardship his grandparents had to endure he decided to go to school and study physiotherapy.

He attended Barry University in Miami in 1998-2002, where he received his Undergraduate and Bachelors Degree in Physiotherapy. Smith then went on to receive his Doctorate from St. Augustine University for Health Science in 2003-2005.

Dr. Smith told this news site that one of the reasons he opened a branch in the VI is because of the fact that some of his patients are actually from Tortola.

“I’ve been treating people from Tortola in St. Thomas for a long time. I didn’t have an office here so I had to tend to them at my home on the island in Frenchman’s Cay.”

He stated that his newly opened branch will offer a wide range of services to the VI, all in the realm of physiotherapy. He added that the facility will provide other services as it progresses and Therapy Works grows.

“We are looking at adding other services but physiotherapy is our focus. Our focus is on orthopedic conditions and pre/post-surgical matters.”

He said his business is instrumental in helping the public with hip and knee replacements, ankle injuries in the realm of neurological state, persons who have strokes, spinal injuries and other developmental issues.

Dr. Smith stated that depending on the need for his services in the VI, the opening will serve as a ‘measuring stick’ once he sees the need of the community. “If it’s beyond what this facility can provide then we will look at what expansion we would need to provide.”

The new branch will officially start operations on June 5, 2012.
The days of operation at the VI branch will be Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

In the next five years, Smith forecasts Therapy Works to be the top wellness facility that provides a multi -disciplinary approach to physical medicine.

“Health care is a very different industry from the others where it don’t depend on tourism or any other factors in the economy.”

He added that his business offers very good services with economic friendly rates.
