ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The Territory of the Virgin Islands has lost one of its stalwarts with the death of Mr Theodore Skeete, someone who has left a legacy by his contribution to the world of sports especially cricket, a teacher of many years and most of all someone whose contribution to community development is unmatched in many regards.

Mr. Skeete is said to have passed away in Puerto Rico this week, according to information reaching this news site.

Mr. Skeete is a former president of the British Virgin Islands Cricket Association and former vice president of the Leeward Islands Cricket Association. Mr. Skeete’s contribution to the game spans all of the Virgin Islands, even to parts of the Leeward Islands. He was deeply passionate about the game and gave freely of his time, knowledge and expertise.

Among the first legislators who have publicly saluted the accomplishments of Skeete was Chairman of the Virgin Islands Party Honourable Julian Fraser RA (R3).

Hon. Fraser's Message in full is as follows:

“The Territory has been informed of the passing of Mr. Theodore Skeete after a prolonged period of illness. As Chairman of the Virgin Islands Party I extend words of condolence to his wife, children, family, relatives and associates.

Without the risk of contradiction I am pleased to state that Mr. Skeete has served the Virgin Islands with distinction, zeal and to the fullness of his ability.

He served many years in the Virgin Islands Education system as a principal at the primary school level; as a teacher at the BVI High School and as a lecturer at the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College. He worked as an economist in the Ministry of Finance for the Government of the Virgin Islands. He owned and managed his sporting store on Main Street.

His record of voluntary service to the community is also exemplary. Mr Skeete was a stalwart member of the Lions Club of Tortola; President of the BVI Cricket Association and founding member of the Nevis Alliance Progressive Society.

Mr. Skeete’s contribution to the growth and development of the Virgin Islands will not go unnoticed.

May his soul rest in peace!”

    It is with sadness that I read about Mr. Skeete's passing. I wish to convey condolences to his widow and the rest of his family.

    Mr. Theodore Skeete: A MAN WITH DIGNITY. He was my geography teacher at the BVI High School and his wife was one of my mentor during my profession as a nurse at Peebles Hospital. My condolence to his loving wife Mazie, his children especially Brian and daughter Elice; rest of his family and the members of The Naps Assocation; of which he was a staunch member.
    May his soul rest in eternal peace as the Lord grant all of u comfort during this mourning period.
