NORTH SOUND, Virgin Gorda, VI – The future of the leadership of the Virgin Islands seems to be of great concern to residents across the divides to the extent that they fear that the ‘White man’ is taking over very senior leadership positions in government.

There were much background talks about this issue yesterday evening April 13, 2014 among mainly the men of Virgin Gorda but one was bold enough to take to the microphone and speak his mind on the matter at a community meeting called by Ninth District Representative Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal OBE.

The resident who was very emphatic in his expressions about the allegation stated that while he has no political ambitions whatsoever, “I want everybody to know that the ‘white people’ is not going to take over this country, not even over my dead body.”

It was on that note that a large number of the men in the meeting broke off to the other side of the road in a local bar where the issue was further ventilated. When this news site decided to further engage the men on the topic they declined to go on record but blasted the present NDP government for sinking the Territory into a deep state of extremely poor management.

They blamed the current government for failing them as some did admit to voting NDP in the last elections but said that it was the greatest mistake they have ever made in their lives. One said that while the VIP may have done some wrongs those being done by the NDP is 100 times worse. “They looking out for themselves, they stooping to the ‘white people’ and that’s one thing that we can’t say VIP did when they were in power,” one said.

Hon. O’Neal did not respond to the allegations of the ‘White man’ taking over the country.

Wait wait wait. One part of his statement is NOT TRUE! VIP did sell out our islands to the white man. Necter Island, Norman Island, Saba Rock, Guana Island, Peter Island, Prickly Pear, Mosquito Island, etc. I am not sure which party sold to who, but I do know VIP started selling out our islands before NDP was even elected into office.

To LMAO- And why are you broke? Pick one of the following? A) NDP B) NDP C) NDP D) NDP E) All of the above.

NDP is of the belief that economy is robust and they are right. Only you and many blacks do not see that money that is made in the BVI. It goes to the white people.

I don't know about you but I'm not broke. I work hard for my money and my head is above water, speak for yourself. I never ask Government for a dime in my life and never will.

To exam. Arrogant people like LMAO are making 200,000 to 600,000 a year in BVI easy and flaunting that he ain't broke - that is Fact. What BVI people need to do is open our eyes and stop letting the getto fabulous from elsewhere come here to suck us dry. The will make a genius think that the only way he can make money is to work for them hence LMAO stupid, arrogant, distasteful, biased, unfounded comments.

Investment is needed but that doesn't mean that the whole store has to be given away. NDP seems dazzled by the money being spent in north sound and those developers seem to be writing their own tickets. I wish the government was stricter with development regulations. But then again, they can't even do that with their own. Laws are for everyone, not just the few. Whites have to remember that they are still a "guest" in this territory, and should be encouraged to be respectful. NDP likes its glamour.

Regardless of what you think about NDP, nobody should go out in public making such statements. It's utterly embarrassing and we should all feel ashamed of this display. Mr Oneal should have gotten up and told the guy despite his personal feelings, he should not be painting with such a broad brush. The equation in the BVI is simple, we all want money but we don't have it. The white people with the money are coming in, what do you think will happen? You think people will just fly over, drop millions and then leave? It doesn't work that way. I'm not saying that anybody, white black or pink should be able to do as they please because they have money. But there is a balancing act that must be done because you're trying to balance between getting money into the country and not letting anyone get too much power. It's not an easy thing. If you are too harsh on developers and they leave, the leaders are bashed as being irresponsible. If they give them certain concessions to get them spending, they are bashed for being sell outs. You cannot win this fight and don't mind the talk, no matter which Government gets in, they will deal with investors in a friendly manner as the competition for money and tourists is piping hot in the Caribbean Region. don't fool yourselves.

The things I want to call you goes against my religion. What do you mean don't talk about it in public? We have to talk about it. It must be resolved. The unapologetic exploits that the NDP are allowing their white friends to do would never fly under VIP.

As a white person who loves the BVI let me tell you that you are absolutely right. Outsiders of all colors must remember that they are guests in the BVI and the government should be protecting the rights and resources of the BVI people.

The topic just so happens to be White people...lets just realize that first, next lets just come to terms with the fact that it just so happens to be white people that are cheating hard working blacks out of their homes and land, not all but enough. This is no secret, they speak openly of it and talk smack about the very same locals that are helping them by fronting... All they have to pay is paper money that holds no value while they get land and resources in return...Tortola is full of mis-guided, educated fools who white people would LOVE to take advantage of because it is an opportunity for THEM and thats just what they do best..... How many white people you know around here own a business and can actually DO the work they pay blacks to do? I cant wait to see what will be in our children's history books 20 years from now.... just another big fat Columbus lie...

@ whites - Ah sugar pies it is about color but you see, you are white so you don't feel and know what it is like to be a black under NDP rule, so go back to sipping your tea and don't worry yourself with the little people problems.

There might be white people BORN here, but that does not mean they are FROM here as in have RIGHTS here. There are very few whites with RIGHTS here, or at least very few ENTITLED to those rights, so lets not get it twisted. And some of those whites that are FROM here are in fact robbing indigenous BVIslanders on a daily basis, if not through exploitation in there workplaces, then through inviting their white friends to come and take the BVIslanders jobs.

I applaud this gentlemen for saying what a lot of people think. I am of the skin tone he refers to yet I fully agree with his sentiments, however I have personel knowledge of a deal done with the Ralph and the NDP to give more prime land away for well under 10% of it value today.

I am a white person having lived in excess of 20 years in these islands , if you really are white I am ashamed of you, you are not the type of person who should reside here. You and your small mind need to crawl back to wherever you came from.

plenty of white people are from BVI and contribute to and love the place as much as any other and would like to see the proper checks and balances on foreign investment.

Plenty of black people in BVI are not from here - even many of our politicians weren't born in BVI.

Plenty of black people and other races who might like to invest in BVI and are not from here.

Carrying on with racist bigotry in this way muddies the waters on the debate to how we control inward investment as well as deters investment from BVIslanders and foreigners alike. And to think some of these people also call themselves Christians as well. Not in any God's eyes is this Christian behaviour

The psychologically dependency on whites by those we elected to manage the country's affairs lead them to arrive at the conclusion that what is good for the whites in Europe must also be good for black people any and everywhere.
