BAUGHER’S BAY, Tortola, VI – While several persons have expressed regret that Minister for Education and Culture Honourable Myron V. Walwyn did not push for the Virgin Islands School of Technical Studies (VISTS) to be named after the late Mr Stanley Nibbs in full Former Minister for Education Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1) said what was done was well meaning.

“That type of decision is the prerogative of any sitting Government,” explained Hon Fahie and according to persons that prerogative should have been exercised by this sitting Government.

References were made of several buildings and institutions in the Virgin Islands which were named in full for other deserving others. “The question in my mind was why just one wing. The Auditorium at the College was named for Eileene Parsons but that’s understood as the college was named for Stoutt. Look as the High schools, all the other government controlled high schools, they are named for some person in full and this is the 4th government high school why not continue the pattern,” said one resident during the official opening ceremony of VISTS.

Nonetheless Hon Fahie registered his full support for the school putting aside all politics. “‎I want to take this time to commend the improvements done to the Virgin Islands technical school in Baugher’s Bay. Although not currently the norm in BVI politics, I am a firm believer that when something is good for our Territory then we should not allow our political affiliations to stop us from recognizing what is good regardless of what political party did it,” he said.

He said that the improvements to the technical school are noteworthy and for that venture he congratulated the Minister and government. “Governments in the past and present continue to make improvements to all aspects of our education system with this latest venture following such trends,” said Hon Fahie.

He further stated that improvements in the Territory’s technical studies continue to be achieved over the years with this latest improvement adding much more needed value to our technical studies programme. “Our youth are our future and past and present governments have and continue to exhaust all efforts in improving our education product.”

Through these efforts our children can rest assure that a solid building is being built on an even stronger education foundation laid by many educational stalwarts in the past thereby ensuring the best for each child whereby at no time were any of them treated as an outcast or as a victim of the system but rather a victor with a bright future as a Virgin Islander, the Former Education Minister stressed.

“As I always do, I pray for the best for each student and our education system. Our children's future is in their hands. I urge each of them to stay focused, stay dedicated and stay respectful. The rest is in God's hands.”

Hon Fahie said that as a Territory our best days are not our yesterdays but it starts with everyone getting a sound education which past and present governments have made great strides in achieving.

“Our journey towards excellence, towards greatness, is far more important than the intended destination. If our education system fails then we all fail; however for us in the BVI failure is not an option. Let us continue to encourage our children to be the best that they can be!” Hon Andrew A. Fahie said.

Fahie this proves to me that you are a wise leader with the country at heart. When you agree you say & when you don't you do likewise. You are an awesome man.

Good thing Fahie. Take the high road although Myron will never spit out of his mouth that you as former Minister did anything good. I have great respect for you Fahie.

In the past VIP government & the present NDP Government only the Ministry of Education did anything meaningful for the people. These two young men are pushers for the people. A pity they are on oppositie sides with both with a set of waste of time people.

The amount of money FAHIE wasted on his PIE IN THE SKY SCHEMES- Drag racing and other foolishness- FAHIE could have built 2 technical colleges when he was in power - Myron now setting the pace

Pure foolishness you come talk now. The drag racing was less than the one hundred thousand dollars Myron spend on the one night dinner with the King. The money you say Fahie waste was also less than the one hundred thousand dollars book to a friend when FSC wrote one free of cost to the government. You wheel & come again. Myron throw away alot of our tax dollars but this time he did something good. I hope when we look into how it was spent on this same project we don't drop down.

When anyone says good about NDP they are a good person. When they say bad about the NDP they are a bad person. Who is the fool that does determine this I don't know. If something good its good & if it is not then it is not whether Ndp or VIP. What a strange place.

I am 100% in agreement that this improvement to the technical school is a good initiative but when the public realises how much hanky panky went on in this project & how much money did not hit the target then is when we will have to build a new prison.

I can agree with the Minister naming just a wing at the school. It is a difference if he was a teacher at the school If he was a teacher I can well see him naming the school after him. The B.V.I High school named after Mr. Stoutt because he was a teacher there. and if you check all the other schools in the B.V.I. there is a connection withe a particular teacher who taught that school.
