- said NDP Gov’t labelling him as someone who can’t be trusted with the territory’s finances

POCKWOOD POND, Tortola, VI- Many may recall the National Democratic Party (NDP) 2015 campaign strategy to demonise the then Chairman of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP), Hon Julian Fraser RA, who they had labelled as unfit to become the Premier of the Virgin Islands.

Words such as arrogant, dictator and nightmare were branded on Hon Fraser, with NDP supporter and former legislator Eileene L. Parsons OBE famously coining the words ‘Fraser for Premier, oh what a nightmare’.

And now with Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) in the seat of Chairman of the VIP, it seems it is now his turn to face the smearing wrath of the NDP, even with the elections campaign far from sight.

Speaking to persons in attendance at the VIP Mix and Mingle at the R&R Malone Complex in PockWood Pond, Tortola on January 25, 2017 Hon Fahie said the NDP has already started to portray him as someone untrustworthy.

Can’t be trusted?

The former Minister for Education under a Virgin Islands Party Government said he went to Anegada recently and some residents there told him that persons from the present Government told them that “they can’t afford for Hon Fahie to become the Minister of Finance because he will go away with the money.”

Hon Fahie said that comment made him laugh “because right now, whoever becomes the next Minister of Finance will only have the title of Minister of Finance and no finance. So nobody shouldn’t worry who is the next Minister of Finance…there is no money to go away with.”

“But it just shows you how the branding has already started.”

He said at the same time every project the NDP Government is doing they are “going with the money in droves but they look over there and saying don’t watch me with this bag, keep an eye on Fahie.”

The VIP Chairman mentioned the $15M reportedly accounted for on the Cruise Pier Project, and taking $8M from the East End/Long Look Sewerage Project and putting it into the Cruise Pier Project without going through the proper channel as reasons why the Government themselves cannot be trusted. “And out there telling you don’t mind me with that, keep an eye on Fahie…and Fahie not in the Treasury. I am not in the Government.”

According to Hon Fahie, it is not that some of the projects are bad but there is no accountability and transparency.

Communication

Meanwhile, the new VIP Chairman said he has started communicating more with the people, which he believes is critical to making the VIP a force to take the country forward.

He added that he has already made trips to Anegada, Jost Van Dyke and Virgin Gorda, joking that he could have “gotten a fist” for going Virgin Gorda but he still went.

“My aim is to make sure that we touch the whole Virgin Islands so that people could see us for who we are and not what some trying to put an image of what we are.”

To leadership. Action do speak louder than words- and NDP has taught us that well. Fahie better don't go down that same road. We are very "Alert!" this time around. We are too close to the edge of the cliff today to accept anymore shenanigans from our political members.

In the last election when the NDP was running a campaign to discredit Fraser you Fahie and all your cronies stood aside and let it happen. You all never offered a word of contradiction because it served your c****d purpose. Now that you are the head you finally see what its like. TEK That. As my name says Karma is a B. Wait until they go after your past.

    How do we gain Respect?

My family would have respected Fahie 100% if he had written his letter to his colleague expressing his concerns about his supposed lack of cooperation in the party, instead of written to the great white hope, governor, once again, who has already shown his colours from his time on the island and now just waiting out his time to leave.

After our forefathers and mothers were left in these islands “to suck salt through wooden spoons” and told that these islands will only become bird sanctuaries, our people found a way among themselves to work out their differences and set up the foundations in which “we all walk on today.”

Fahie gave us his word and behind our backs ran to an ineffective governor for justification. This has left a sour taste in my family mouth who was just starting to appreciate and favour his bravado. Be BRAVE enough to go straight to your brother and work out you’ll problems before you run outside of your political family for favour; only then, when all attempts have failed, one should seek external intervention. Even utilizing the three (3) strike universal rule could have applied here. First- “the-talk-it-out attempt,” trailed by the 2nd and 3rd follow-up letters. After, if there was no solution realized, only then, should the “external no hold bars” fiercely enacted.

Only then, if details of the situation became publicly exposed- The VI PUBLIC – who LIKE or DISLIKE you – would overwhelmingly “Respected” you for your “Fair” attempts to work-out you’ll differences and RALLY with you 97%. The 3% difference is for some of our people, who, regardless of the outcome, lack any sense of reasoning.

The way forward, apologize to your colleague for your ill-advised tactic for reconciliation, and if accepted, sit-down and work out you’ll problems like two (2) grown men. There is a Bigger Picture here- Our Country Future is at the crossroads.

“Think Forward, Not Backwards.” Every other human group find a way to work out their differences and progress together (Chinese, Arabs, Hispanics, Filipinos, Europeans, [Jews], Indians, etc.).

Why should we as a people of the Diaspora continue to accept and embrace this “slavish mental conditioning?

New Day, New Way, New Say! Set the Example for the New Way of Leadership in Our Country, moving forward.

    Boy,

VIP done dead for true. A former VIP supporter told me this. And after reading this article I am convinced that they won't survive with the current/new leader. The branding as already started for real. And it's a damn good branding. CANNOT BE TRUSTED. And there is plenty evidence. If his own party can't trust him then how is the country suppose to trust him buddy?? Ask poor Fraser if this guy is Trustworthy.....

Blows sharing pun de other side now. If these onslaught of blows don't bring this party together and UNITE, nothing else well. In that case, we will all need to embrace a third party entrant and a whole new set of political candidates all together.

What the VIP needs to do is to focus on what is infront of them, get their party prepared for the next election. It is evident that there is disharmony from the other political party, and all the VIP has to do is to pay attention to their party and to look for the best viable candidates in order to bring out their party asap.

focus on fresh faces from different districts. hold public introduction meetings and rallies. But beyond complaining about same members and parties, I blame the people for not speaking up and holding officials accountable by not writing letters to the newspapers, forming groups and committees to confront representatives with grievances. It is the people who need to keep politicians in line. And it is the journalists who have to report it. If they see white envelopes, call them on it. I would like to see a change in parties BUT with more resident input for priorities.
