BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI - There was no doubt that the objectives were achieved last night July 20, 2013 as persons turned out in their numbers to dance to music provided by a number of local bands- and dance they did.

It was a day organized by the proprietor of Da Spot, Mr Steve E. Parillon with the objective of bringing families, friends and even tourists in one place to enjoy live musical entertainment, but strictly local bands.

"We had a late start but the turnout was great. We have eight bands and it was indeed a great promotion. It was free; people came out and enjoyed great music by our local bands. Some of these guys are new, some have been around a long time, and some people have never seen them perform. Tonight gave that exposure for persons to put a face to some songs they have only heard," Mr Parillon told Virgin Islands News Online.

The event was named "Bands to make them dance" where eight bands came together in an unprecedented show of live VI soca music at one location and, according to Parillon, was one way of him promoting the local bands as the Festival season kicks off.

Each of the bands was allotted one hour to make an impression and cause patrons to party to music suited for even the youngest child.

Most of the bands were uniformed with T-Shirts carrying the name of their bands, which made it even easier for them to be identified by their fan.

Moses Callwood-Maduro, a fan of local bands, said there is a need for more such activities to give locals a push. "Our guys got great music in them. We don't have to wait for people to come from overseas before we could have a good show, we have the talents in abundance right here in the BVI," he told Virgin Islands News Online.

Shanice Govia, a teenager, said she wanted to personally say thanks to Steve E. Parillon. "I will meet him tonight or some other time to say thanks because if he didn't ensure the music was suitable for children my parents were not going to send me out tonight." Govia was out with a group of approximately ten peers and they all were obviously having a good time with clean music.

Parillon, who manages the consortium of entertainment business at one location at Baughers Bay, said residents need to keep their ears to the ground as there is much more to come in the line of entertainment during the festival season, immediately after the festival and beyond.

Don't be smart.... the event started late and the sound system was poor to begin with. Do you really think something like that with Extreme, Showtime, PrimeTime, VI Splash Band, HardCore and more would flop just so for free?
Come on and use your head before you post crap for the world to read

It's good that at least there's someone can forward to put on a show of such magnitude, eight bands is not an easy thing to put one place to perform. Everything never goes as plan, if the system was not at it's best, get a better one next time or change the engineering. Give a big BIGUP to every one for their efforts and energy and hope this event will bring all together as ONE BVI ppl living on one island.
