Territory does not need leaders with spaghetti backbones - Stoutt
The call came from Leando O. Stoutt, nephew of late Chief Minister H. Lavity Stoutt, who shared during the recent First District Annual report meeting with residents that there are three types of people who live in the world, “those who make things happen, those who watch things happen and those who don’t know what happened.”
According to Stoutt, leaders have to make tough decisions and the Territory needs leaders with real backbones and not spaghetti backbones.
The ultimate measure of a man, he remarked, is not where he stands in moments of comfort but where he stands in times of trials and challenges.
Stoutt’s message was in alignment with remarks made by First District Representative Hon. Andrew A. Fahie, who outlined several of his initiatives and solutions to current problems faced by the Territory during his speech to the residents.
Among his proposals, he reiterated the implementation of a first time home owners’ programme and said as a proposed start, legislation can be passed in the House of Assembly that would guide the policy allowing only the Social Security Board to administer a first time home ownership programme.
This, he said, will allow for the programme to be independent of all political interference with the aim of having a ceiling of $350,000 per home for the first two years of the programme.
Hon. Fahie added that each of the nine districts will benefit from this programme which would allow for three homes per district to be constructed in the first phase of the programme.
The First District Representative also called for the creation of sound revenue generators in the Territory and proposed initiatives such as sports tourism and creative ways to complement the cruise and tourism industries through technology. He remarked that youths could also gain meaningful employment through this route.
“These and many more ideas that will significantly boost the economy while empowering our people,” Hon. Fahie said.

I agree that we need a home owners association but i just when i ready to retire social security i hope u would have my pension ready. I dont think they should take money from social security. This seems like a bad idea this 3 home thing i already see that will be based on who you know kinda thing some districts might get loans for 1 house will others get loans for 10. I wont be surpised if this come to pass social security monthly rates will increase significantly.
