DUFF’S BOTTOM, Tortola, VI – As the Julian Fraser / Save the Seed (STS) Basketball League continued this past weekend the Directors have also stood by their “Zero Tolerance” stance by fining several teams for infringements of the rules.

The fines were levied against teams not having at least 5 players present at the Opening Ceremony. The teams include: Avengers, Bayside Blazers, Da 3rd, Knights, Run It Red, Ruff House, Spartans, Talk Done, Top Shottas, Young Stars, Warrias, West Gunners.

Approached for a comment by this news site Commissioner of the League Rajah A. Smith directed us to Assistant Commissioner Milton C. McLean, who when approached declined comment.

Each Fine is $100 and according to League Officials “must be paid” by September 1st, 2014. “We are making sure we get the message across that teams need to have responsibility, accountability and be disciplined," said an official from the League.

The official stance is also that if the fine remains unpaid after the due date, then those teams will be removed from the schedule. “The reaction of the Team will tell us if they really want to be a part of the League or not. Everything is in the By Laws and every team received a copy,” said the League official.

He said the Opening Ceremony was advertised well in advance and teams were even given a 30 minute “grace” period according to Officials. “The Teams need to understand that the Ceremony was a very important part of our process this year and not having the full complement of players was an embarrassment” stated the League Committee Member.

In an unrelated, but timely move the Directors of the League has also announced a new Member to the Committee as per the Rules and By-Laws.

Attorney David A. Abednego will serve as Legal Counsel to the Hon. Julian Fraser Save the Seed Basketball League and has already begun work, preparing the indemnification form so all players can start signing it by next Friday’s (August 29, 2014) games.

So why couldnt the Commission for the League step up and provide comments on this matter, but instead pass things on to the Asst. Commissioner. As the Head, he should be able to tackle all types of matters, not only when things are in his favor.

If you watch the jtv sports show it was the commissioner in the hot seat. He handled it well and Karl was not in his favor.

I don't have a problem with the rules or the enforcing of those rules BUT.. How can you host an opening ceremony on a FRIDAY AFTERNOON at 5pm? That is rush hour and many players work or have responsibilities to pick up children and even the younger players need their parents to take them to the ceremony. I just think it could have been held a bit later say 6pm thus giving teams a chance to get their players to the gym. Many teams showed up but they were late so ended up being fined.
