Team BVI finishes 2nd in OECS Junior Squash

ROAD TOWN, Tortola-VI – A final tally of 6 medals was enough to see the BVI Youngsters finish behind the hosts St Vincent as the Junior Squash Championships drew to a close on Sunday April 14, 2013.

The team picked up 3 Bronze, 2 Silver and 1 Gold to pip St Lucia, but the real drama of the final day was in the U-17 Girls division with 3 players tied for first place.

The tournament statistician was busy in his office doing all the calculation required to resolve the situation, taking into account matches won and lost, positive difference between games won and lost and positive difference between points won and lost.

When all was said and done, rechecked and verified, it was clear how close this age group was to call. In third place was Deiriai Myers (VIN), she won 9 games and lost 5. In second place was Thandi Myers (VIN), she won 10 games and lost 5. The Girls’ Under 17 Champion 2013 is Gianna Miller Alexander (VIN), winning 11 games and only losing 5. In fourth place was Abayomi Maddox (IVB) and fifth place went to Zeina Reyes (LCA).

The final day of action saw Thandi Myers (VIN) defeat Emily Abrehart (IVB) 11/3, 11/1, 11/2 and Abayomi Maddox (IVB) beat Johanna Kerins (IVB) 11/3, 11/9, 11/7 in the Girls U-15’s Semi-Finals.

Then in the Play off for 5th and 6th places Kerstin Gordon (IVB) defeated Lauryn Doyle (VIN) 11/4, 11/9, 7/11, 7/11, 12/10, whilst in the 3rd and 4th place match, Emily Abrehart (IVB) defeated Johanna Kerins (IVB) 11/9, 12/10, 11/8.

And in the Final, Thandi Myers (VIN) defeated Abayomi Maddox (IVB) 11/3, 11/2, 11/5.

In the U-17 Girls, Gianna Miller Alexander (VIN) defeated Zeina Reyes (LCA) 11/3, 10/12, 11/2, 11/5 and Thandi Myers (VIN) defeated Abayomi Maddox (IVB) 11/3, 11/2, 11/5.

In the Under 19 Girls, Gianna Miller Alexander (VIN) Defeated Erika Sorrentino (IVB) 11/7, 11/7, 11/9 and Deiriai Myers (VIN) defeated Erika Sorrentino (IVB) 11/6, 11/4, 11/9.

    Where's the Minister for Sports? OH sorry, not enough Lyme light for the guy....But Maddox is a professional photographer I am sure he'll do a good job with making they guy look good. WE NEED A BETTER MINISTER TO REPRESENT THE YOUTH!!! AN OTHER SPORT WITH LITTLE TO NO SUPPORT AT ALL
