DUFF'S BOTTOM, Tortola, VI - Last evening August 29, 2014 the Basketball Club Bayside Blazers stayed true to their promise and held the drawings for its fund raising raffle that the Team kicked off in May of this year.

The drawings took place at the popular Hon. Julian Fraser Save the Seed National Basketball League now in action at the Save the Seed Energy Centre in Duff’s Bottom, Tortola.

The funds will go back into the organization to help defray the cost of its operation and programmes.

The winners of the raffle are as follows;

1st Prize; which was a Spa package compliments Peter Island Resort & Spa (value $1500) which was won by Quincy St. M. Woolford of Road Town;

2nd, Prize; was one night’s stay at Scrub Island Resort & Spa (value $700.00) which was won by Devon A. Rowe of Huntum’s Ghut;

5th Prize: which is a manicure & pedicure, courtesy of A Cut Above Beauty Salon (value $50.00) which was won by Jonnell G. Jessop of Valley, Virgin Gorda.

The raffle tickets were sold at $5.00 each.

Manager of the Bayside Blazers Julian Willock told our news site in an exclusive interview that he was humbled and thankful for the generosity of businesses which contributed in many ways to making this raffle possible and the enthusiasm of team members in selling tickets.

Mr. Willock a former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Communications and Works said that the Bayside Blazers Basketball Team has a programme whereby it is one of the few teams that rents a private facility to train and has weekly practice sessions with its players.

“[We do] both basketball training and weight room training and it’s very expensive at $500.00 a month,” said Mr. Willock. “So when you see a long list of sponsors know that it’s still not enough to cover our programme and the many other [associated] costs if you are going to maintain a basketball programme and provide the necessary support to the Team,” said Willock.

He said he is very thankful for the generosity of corporate BVI “as with us, if you give $50.00 your name is listed as a sponsor, if you give $100.00 your name is listed, as every cent counts.”

The Bayside Blazers now has a brand new squad precipitating in the Hon. Julian Fraser Save the Seed League and it is hoped that the team will fare better than it did in the BVI Basketball Federation’s 2014 League played at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex earlier this year.

Willock said after the Bayside Blazers is done with participating in the Hon. Julian Fraser Save the Seed League which is expected to end around November 2, 2014 it’s on to the Virgin Gorda League.

When asked if he thinks the team will be tired after participating in two leagues back to back he said “no, that is why we have a programme to ensure that our players stay fit and eat healthy…thanks to the kind contributions of the many businesses and individuals.”

The Bayside Blazers now has two wins with no losses at the Hon. Julian Fraser Save the Seed League and will do battle tonight August 30, 2014 at 9:30 PM against West Gunners at the Save the Seed Energy Centre.

The Bayside Blazers is managed and owned by Julian Willock and is sponsored by; BCQS, Hon. Julian Fraser RA, Aaron Rentals Ltd., Paradise Suites Hotel, STO Enterprise Ltd., Caribbean Insurers Ltd., JML Techno Ltd., Peter Island Resort, Digicel BVI, Flax Craft Inc., Nagico Insurances, Scrub Island Resort & Spa, A Cut Above Beauty Salon, James Todman Construction Ltd., Crescent Corporate Services Ltd., NS Cleaning & Import Services Ltd., Mossack Fonseca & Co (BVI) Ltd., B & F Medical Complex, CW General Maintenance, Hon. Alvera Maduro-Caines, K-Marks Foods (1996) Ltd and International Motors Ltd.

The team is coached by Rhennie O. Phipps with assistance from Jason A. Edwin.
