ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Teachers of three primary schools on Tortola were recently paid a visit by members of Tola Race Wars (TRW), Akiya Brewley Designs and Paradise Club Road Side Bar and Grill and were presented with gifts as part of the groups’ continued back to school drive.

The initiative started on September 3, 2016 in Cane Garden Bay where teachers were presented with starter kits and free dinner at the Paradise Club Road Side Bar and Grill.

The kind gesture was extended to September 16, 2016 when members of the various entities visited the Alexandrina Maduro Primary School, Althea Scatliffe Primary School and Ivan Dawson Primary School.

The members went from classroom to classroom presenting the teachers with various materials to aid their work.

Grateful past students

President of TRW Dr Carl O. Dawson said he remembers the teachers of his primary school (Althea Scatliffe) who were a vital part of his journey to becoming a doctor.

“Some of the teachers are still there like Mrs Shirley Martin and Mrs Marieta Headley, Mrs Javelin Nisbett. This was just a small contribution to them to remind them that their past students still care and appreciate what a fine job they did and continue to do,” Dr Dawson said.

Mr Al Brewley, owner of Paradise Club in Cane Garden Bay, said he remembered when Mrs Martin taught him in Enid Scatliffe Primary School and that she was a wonderful teacher. He said he was pleased to see Mrs Martin continuing to touch the children’s heart and minds and shape their education.

Mr Brewley added that without his primary and preschool teachers he wouldn’t be an upstanding proud business owner today.

Akyia Brewley of Akyia Brewley Design said she attended Alexandrina Maduro Primary School and Mrs Coval Cruickshank is still there spreading her beautiful cheerful education on the children. She was delighted to see and present a gift to Mrs Cruickshank for her years of hard work and dedication to the school.

TRW, Paradise Club and Akiya Brewley Designs are hoping that this can be a yearly presentation to the teachers to show their worth and appreciation from the community.

It's unfortunate that individuals in our society cannot differentiate between what is appropriate and inappropriate. If the teacher wants to dress like that on her own time, go ahead, but not in school. Cover up ghetto tattoos when you are in the classroom and dress becoming of a teacher. We wonder out loud why our youth are so fast and loose and always want to blame parents. Certainly parents are responsible for their children but be reminded that our children spend 6 to 8 hours at school with individuals who some look up to and aspire to be. It's not only what you say, it's what you do. If I can't tell the difference between how a teacher dresses during school hours when she's teaching the gems of our society and a stripper, well sorry, I have got a problem with that. COVER UP THE TATTOOS!!!!!

@ we care: there are bigger social issues in the territory and some of us worried about dress code....if you care why don't you share information with the police about some of the crime you know about....if you care why don't you purchase a new wall robe for the young woman: the young lady is trying to make a difference education our children and you up in here chatting a$$......talk that

That is the start of the break down. We call these things little issues. A big problem now was a small problem before. It did not start out big.

There is 8,760 hours roughly in a year, a child spend 2,160 hours out of that year with a teacher! So tell me again, who develops the traits of this child?

You so want to down grade the young lady that you have displayed hate rather than constructive criticism... So sad!

Don't get me wrong, we have to be professionals in whatever we do but people in this VI love to display their hatred for another, this article was not even about the young lady and you made it about her! Her a$$ is not out, her bossum is fully covered and the dress is knee length, who knows she may have taken off her jacket because the place is hot or they appeared in the middle of an activity! What ever the circumstances were we are not previewed to it! The people who are using this opportunity to take swipes at her could NEVER go around her playing! So be the little cowards that you are and stay hidden. There is a saying when you dig a whole dig 2! The next one is for you!

She has stood up to try make a difference within our country! Yet she is being ridiculed for her outter appearance...You people are always quick to bash others for having tattoos... Does having a tattoo make you a bad or good person? No it doesnt!!! We need to stop this foolish judgement and commend her for her works being doing!! Sorry if you have something personal against the young lady, deal with that issue elsewhere!!!

        Irrelevant!!!!
