BEEF ISLAND, VI - Coinciding with the limited June re-opening of the Virgin Islands (VI) borders for those living in the territory to return home after the territory's COVID-19 lockdown in March, the BVI Airports Authority (BVIAA) have announced that the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport has opened to facilitate limited flights.

Effective June 2, 2020, Silver Airways/Seaborny will fly from San Juan to Beef Island on Thursdays and Sundays; VI Airlink will fly from St. Thomas to Beef Island beginning June 4th, 6th and 7th at 1pm & 4 pm and departures are scheduled for June 8th, 11th, 13th, & 14th from 4:00pm.

Cape Air and Liat will also be allowed to fly, however, services remain suspended until June 17, 2020 and June, 30 2020, respectively.

Cabinet had previously decided that from June 2 up to June 15, 2020, the first priority will be given to the re-entry of nationals, belongers, holders of permanent residence and naturalised citizens.

Acting Managing Director, Mr Clive Smith noted, “persons returning home are required to book their travel directly with the carrier of choice by contacting them directly or through their respective websites.”

Mr Clive added that travellers will also be required to ensure that the requisite entry registration is finalized with the Ministry of Health prior to returning home.

Mandatory Quarantine

As part of the phased border reopening, Deputy Premier and Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Carvin Malone (AL) had announced that persons arriving in the territory would also be subjected to mandatory quarantine.

“In simple terms, this means that every person coming into the territory will be subject to health screening on arrival, ongoing monitoring during a 14-day mandatory quarantine period and testing to confirm their COVID-19 status, albeit hopefully negative,” Malone said.

He said once approved, persons may be allowed to quarantine at home or in alternate private accommodations rather than opting to be placed in a government quarantine facility for the duration of the 14 days period.

      @ wuhan
i hope so as well because a substantial number of arriving passengers will be coming from infected countries: hope the quarantine process will be enforced because enforcement of legislation is an issue in our territory: who footing the bill for those being hosted at various faculties; permit holders should foot their quarantine expenses some of them have so much chat about the territory and its people yet cant wait to come bvi

Companies who have people on permits need to foot those bills.

You sound so stupid. The government has put in place strict procedures for the incoming persons. Why you and others I have heard say the same thing has to be so negative. You would have liked it if that was you or one of your family members who wanted to come home and can't come back?

These people are being watched by security, they have no choice but to obey. Life must go on, but with precautions.

Yes you are correct! A friend came back on the flight on Friday. He is quarantined and security sitting in the yard right outside his door. 24 hours in 8 hours shift wonder how much this will cost for the 480 ppl who applied to come back
But good precaution. Thanks Hon. Andrew!

We doing good., We moving forward nicely with a good and wise plan... However, i like the NDP plan interms of trvelling to the BVI. After the hurricanes, I was off Island during that time when i show up to the Airport the first thing i was told is only these type of people can enter the BVI...That was nice.... The pre filling of form online, isn't necessary, Give the Airline the information,....

We need to look at the government ban list all the hot spot on it... We can keep our port closed but be prepared for hard times, a civil servant cut our economy will collapse, . Let the government do their job, they know what they are doing....

I am sure it have less than 100 expats that need to returned to the BVI why are they being discriminated for. There might have been seats available on the airlines the BVI citizens are using to returned home why not allow expats too to fill up those seats. Imagine when their turn come they will have to pay for fees to travel as the airlines will be empty and will wants more for tickets they will not want to fly a plane with few people.

Expats are not needed here burden to our resources and doing illicit acts drug peddling keep away from the bvi
