ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Even though there are many who are encouraging the Government on the proposed expansion of the cruiseship pier, there are others who believe that the project should not be executed or that another pier should be built elsewhere.

To hear the views of the public, the government of the Virgin Islands is conducting various meetings with the public and in an effort to solicit the views and concerns of taxi drivers, a meeting will be held later this evening June 20, 2012 at the Moorings Conference Room at 7 p.m. with taxi drivers from Beef Island, Nanny Cay and the Moorings Taxi associations.

Taxi drivers from Road Town, Waterfront and Quality Taxi associations will meet at 7 p.m. at the Moorings on June 21, 2012.

Meanwhile, a local environmental consulting company hired by the government, is conducting surveys in the Territory, in efforts to record the views and concerns of the public.

The surveys are being conducted under the guidance of Dr. Cassander Titley-O’Neal of Virgin Islands Environmental and Technical Solutions (VIROTECH), will gather information on the environmental and social aspect of the project along with the public’s views on the proposed project, the potential impacts it can have, what mitigation factors need to be put in line and the suggestions that are made.

Public meetings were also billed as part of the consultation process for the proposed expansion of the pier.

When funds were available to execute this project and the cruiseships owners were willing to spend their millions to help, Uncle said no way , go fly a kite. Our short sightedness has finally caught up with us. Mark with all his old talk doesn't have a clue as to how the project will be funded, much like Pickering. Maybe Claud will put on sad cloth and ashes and it will come to pass. Taximen, it is going to be a few warm summers before this comes to pass.
