KINGSTON, Jamaica—The Jamaica Tallawahs secured victory in the first of their four Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) Twenty-20 home fixtures, when they defeated Guyana Amazon Warriors by five wickets at Sabina Park on Friday, July 15, 2016.

The win was orchestrated by a composed 87-run six-wicket partnership between captain Chris Gayle and Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan after an eventful start to their run chase, which saw the Tallawahs losing four wickets with two runs on the board.

Al Hasan led the way with an unbeaten 54 off 47 balls that included seven boundaries, while Gayle contributed 45 off 29 deliveries, with two fours and four sixes. Sohail Tanvir was the pick of the Warriors bowling with two for 14 from three overs, while Mohammad Khan and Veersammy Permaul had one wicket each.

With the win the Tallawahs have now slipped into second place on seven points, three behind the Amazon Warriors who continue to lead on 10 points.

Earlier, the Warriors were restricted to 128-6, after the Tallawahs won the toss and opted to field first with the surface slightly grassy and equipped with pace and bounce, which also offered minimal assistance to the slow bowlers Jason Mohammed with an unbeaten knock of 46, including one four and two sixes, was the top of the batting list, with support coming from Chris Lynn, who made 33. Sohail Tanvir was the next best scorer with an unbeaten 15.

Left-arm spinner Imad Wasim was the pick of the Tallawahs bowlers with two for 12 from his four overs, while South African pacer Dale Steyn ended with two for 31 from his four.

Scores: Amazon Warriors 128-6 (20 overs); Tallawahs 132-5 (15.5 overs).
