ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – As a result of the overwhelming outpour of support received by members of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Association (SVGA) of BVI, the group successfully packed and shipped off one 40ft container to their homeland yesterday January 8, 2014.

Residents, who were affected by the storm which hit the islands on Christmas Eve and left severe damage to infrastructure and loss of lives, saw an immediate response by the local representative body here in the Virgin Islands led by Mr. Sean Rose.

Rose has confirmed that his team and those affected by the storm directly are overwhelmed by the response that were exhibited. “We are so please, so gratified, so thankful to all those who in one way or the other reached out,” said Mr. Rose.

He said that in addition to the shipping of the 40ft container of non-perishables, a yacht also left the Virgin Islands yesterday loaded with other supplies.

Among the most recent gestures, was on January 6, 2014 at the Leonora Delville Primary School when members of the First District community responded admirably and took their items of donation to the District Representative Hon. Andrew A. Fahie.

Hon. Fahie additionally challenged teachers and students at the Leonora Delville Primary School to mobilise efforts to donate relief items to the affected communities in St Vincent.

Mr. Rose expressed profound gratitude at the gesture and spoke of his deep appreciation for what the community had done in making the donations.

Rose also expressed that the students of the Primary school were fortunate to be able to sit in their classrooms as many of their brothers and sisters in St Vincent and the Grenadines were not yet back at school. He further noted that some schools in the country are being used as shelters while others have been destroyed by the storm.

Meanwhile, additional support also came from the Virgin Gorda community through the route of the Leo Club. The Valley Sound Leo club thanked the public for their support in gathering items to send to affected neighbouring islands.

Among the items collected by the club were, canned and boxed food items, clothing, household items and over $500. The cash received was used to purchase more canned foods.

Please let's not spoil the moment with negative comments. I am truly thankful to the people of the Virgin Islands who have reached out in such a tremendous manner and shown their love and support for my homeland. If you saw the pictures of the utter destruction in SVG which left many people homeless, you will understand why I am so overwhelmed by your giving. To the many service Clubs, the Supermarkets, clothing stores, and the many individuals you gave, a million thanks. May God continue to bless and keep the British Virgin Islands.
