SVG citizens resident in VI backing Dr Ralph E. Gonsalves for Dec 9 elections

- said they prefer Dr Gonsalves to have another term to continue what he is doing for the country
As the days countdown to the elections in St Vincent and the Grenadines, citizens of that island nation resident in the Virgin Islands seem to have cast their lots on the incumbent Dr The Honourable Ralph E. Gonsalves (right), preferring the labour leader to remain at the country’s helm. The United Labour Party of Dr Gonsalves faces another test on December 9, 2015 as it faces off against its close rival from the 2010 elections, the New Democratic Party (NDP) led by Arnhim U. ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – As the days countdown to the elections in St Vincent and the Grenadines, citizens of that island nation resident in the Virgin Islands seem to have cast their lots on the incumbent Dr The Honourable Ralph E. Gonsalves, preferring the labour leader to remain at the country’s helm.

The United Labour Party (ULP) of Dr Gonsalves faces another test on December 9, 2015 as it faces off against its close rival from the 2010 elections, the New Democratic Party (NDP) led by Arnhim U. Eustace, former Prime Minister of the country.

On his NDP Facebook page, Eustace is described as the person who is “widely expected to be the next Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.”

Change wouldn’t be good right now

St Vincent and the Grenadines national Dennisford Brown told this news site that it is up to the people of the country to decide. However, he is of the view that the country could be set back if the momentum started under the Gonsalves administration is to be halted with a new government and as such he thinks it is best for Gonsalves to remain in power.

“Honestly I am not in the country so I could only give you from whatever feedback I get. Coming around to an election there is always a lot of propaganda. But you really have to deal with what you see for the past five years.”

Mr Brown said that it is time for a new party to regroup and start to put their manifesto to work. He said that the incumbent would have already set itself upon a trajectory and to slow that by changing them would not be good for the country.

He added that if the NDP were to take power, it would mean that it could be up to six or seven or even nine years for what they said in their manifesto to be achieved.

“For me right now I would just allow things as they stand. Leave things as they are and see what happens,” he said. “It doesn’t make any sense right now to change Ralph. You know the amount of work [the NDP] would have to do to catch up,” he said.

Best for the NDP to cut Eustace loose

Another St Vincent citizen, Alesa Dublin said she believes the best bet for her country is for Dr The Honourable Ralph E. Gonsalves to remain in office.

“To me for the NDP to have a chance in this or any election they need to change the leader of the party Arnhim U. Eustace. To me he cannot represent the country. He cannot explain himself and share his views. To me he does not have a plan,” she alleged.

Dublin is of the view that Dr Gonsalves’ plan is a better one for the country. She believes, however, that under Dr Gonsalves’ leadership, while the country has moved forward, more could have been done.

Dr Gonsalves cannot get everything done now

St Vincent and the Grenadines national Austin McDowal said he believes that come December 9, 2015 it is going to be Dr The Honourable Ralph E. Gonsalves prevailing.

“For the NDP to stand a chance they have to get a different leader. He cannot represent the country. He can’t even give a proper speech. That party needs a younger leader for Labour to get a fight.”

McDowal said that while he believes Dr Gonsalves is doing a good job as the country’s Prime Minister, “He can’t get everything done one time.” He also of the view that Dr Gonsalves would have a chance to achieve more should he have another term in office.

Our efforts to reach both Dr Gonsalves and Eustace for telephone and email interviews were unsuccessful.

Please don't speak for me. Gone are the days when you could fool people with a pound of chicken back and strong rum. Vincentians are more educated than ever. The Hon Prime Minister is undoubtedly one of the most intelligent leaders in the Caribbean and he believe everyone else is dumb so he insults and spit in the face of most Vncentians and they laud him thinking it is rain. On the other hand the Opposition Leader should examine himself to determine if he is the most suitable Candidate to take the Nation forward. While those in the diaspora who even have we at heart believe they know who or what is best for our Nation it is only those who remain to build St Vincent from the inside is feeling the heat. So don't tark fu me.

these people are not speaking for me, as I would like to see the back of the Good Doctor. these people who live in the BVI who back the ULP are doing so not because they have made an intelligent decision they are doing so because that's the party that their families have always supported and like wise for those who support the NDP. People when they go home with the US$ they think things good but it's not the reality. SVG needs a change because it has gotten to the point of stagnancy. Is the NDP the best choice i really don't know.
