ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Jeremy Williams, who was arrested and charged for an alleged burglary that occurred at a local car rental dealership was handed down a 6 month jail sentence with an added 12 months from a suspended sentence.

Appearing to be sentenced at the Magistrate's Court today July 9, 2012, where Magistrate Valerie Stephens presided, it was brought to the court’s attention that Mr. Williams had a suspended sentence pending from since 2010 with a requirement being that he do not appear before the court for any crime in two years.

Magistrate Stephens explained that because he is convicted for another crime during the two years, the suspended sentence that has a penalty of 12 months in prison, was then ‘activated’, giving Williams an 18 month sentence period to be served.

Prior to his sentencing, the court indicated that in pleading guilty to his charge, Williams gave comments stating that he has changed his ways and asked for leniency and custodial sentencing.

Magistrate Stephens disclosed that her decision on the 6 month sentence granted to Mr. Williams was because he pleaded guilty and kindly asked for mercy.

See the same bulls..t? Leniency? These people messing up people's lives for petty things and the judge have the heart bout leniency? The police running down people to testify, putting themselves in danger and this is the .... that happens? Now we wondering why people see things but don't bother wasting time telling police? They take statements, build a case and either judge or jury feel sorry for these miserable people and give them a slap on the wrist. When we start chopping up their a$$$es I hope nobody say anything.

YAY!!!! Please let's learn from the repeated appearances of the young men coming before the courts for burglary. Leniency is not the answer!

Leniency to go and do the same bull. You want to kill some people with jail time, but still turn around and give the rascals a chance to go and do the same crime twice. This is what is happenning in the BVI. Wake up BVI.

So people can go and commit crimes, and go to court plead guilty, ask for leniency and that's it. What the HELL is going on here? So people can go out and commit crimes, go to court plead guilty and beg for leniency and that's it. The judge feels that is enough to give a shortened sentence. This is not right, the Magistrate is sending the wrong message. Decent law abiding citizens have no one to look out for them. The lawyers fight tooth and nails to get the criminals off once they are paid, the judges sympathize when they plead guilty and beg for mercy, then the jurors have their agenda (everybody knew everybody) so they don't view cases objectively. Where does this leave those of us who walk behind the law, and want to live in peace and quiet?. . I guess folks we are on our own. The Judges, Lawyers and Jurors are on the criminals side. Oh! And the Police too. s
