Suspended Antigua CoP Vere H.E. Browne’s court challenge dismissed
This news site had reported in January that Browne was suspended from his top post in the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda by the Antigua and Barbuda Police Service Commission who accused Browne, an Antigua and Barbuda national, of dereliction of duty and irresponsibility.
A copy of the letter obtained by our news site revealed that the correspondence did not indicate the length of the suspension but it said Mr Browne, who has a law degree, would receive full pay while away from the post.
Judge rules in favour of PSC
Justice Brian Cottle ruled that the Police Service Commission (PSC) was acting within its lawful jurisdiction and authority to take the action it did, once it is of the view that the alleged conduct complained of, were in breach of the police regulations and warranted appropriate disciplinary action.
There was no order as to cost made against the Police Commissioner, but leave was granted to him, to file an appeal against the decision, if he desired to do so.
Commissioner Browne was suspended indefinitely in a letter dated January 15, 2015. The letter listed four complaints made against him for failing to perform certain duties.
Mr Browne served in the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force up to the rank of Chief Inspector. He had been a 30-year veteran of the local police force.
In 2010 Mr Browne had applied for the position of Deputy Commissioner of Police in the Virgin Islands but was overlooked.
