'Super Cop' found guilty of indecent assault

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI –Police Officer, Mr Glen Callwood aka 'Super Cop', who was before the Magistrate’s court on charges of alleged indecent assault was found guilty of the offense when he appeared before Magistrate Dr Velon John today January 29, 2014.

Callwood is to return to court for sentencing on February 6, 2014.

The court heard evidence from both the prosecution and defence over the past two weeks after Callwood pleaded not guilty to the offence which allegedly occurred sometime between late November and the end of December 2012.

The Virtual Complainant (VC), who is a Maintenance supervisor with the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force [RVIPF] said, “I feel a stinging blow… ‘bam’, on my testicles,” before testifying before the court that he then asked, “Callwood, what the heck you doing?”

According to the VC, his body froze for some time after the defendant grabbed his private parts and pulled on it and he was left in pain for approximately five minutes.

The witness then testified that Callwood responded, “I would do it again,” before walking off in the direction of another worker who was nearby in the shed area at the Road Town Police Station.

The VC told the Court that Callwood then allegedly told the nearby worker, “I want a piece of you, you are more tender.”

Callwood, who vehemently denied the allegations upon taking the stand, told the court that he was never in the vicinity of the shed at the Station during the time the incident allegedly occurred.

Further, the court heard from a defence witness that the prosecution’s witnesses allegedly conspired to get their dates ‘straight’ before an investigation was launched against the defendant with the RVIPF.

According to the witness, the VC in the matter allegedly stated, “I’m gonna shoot that [expletive] policeman. I must shoot that [expletive].” Before one of his colleagues allegedly asked who had troubled him.

The VC allegedly replied, “That [expletive] Police boy Callwood. On Friday [February 1, 2013] he pulled me over on Joe’s Hill Road and disrespected me in front of my wife.”

“I must shoot that [explective]. This boy always [expletive] around me,” the VC allegedly added. “Last week he pulled me over by LIME in town and I must do something to him. I must fix him because this is harassment.”

The witness said he spent about 15 minutes at the gas pump re-fuelling vehicles before going near the shed where the alleged incident occurred and overheard the three Crown witnesses discussing dates.

The VC, he reported, allegedly said, “We have to get this thing right, all of us have to say the same thing.”

During his evidence, Callwood denied giving the VC a ticket when he was pulled over by the LIME building in Road Town even though he was not in possession of his licence at the time. Callwood testified that the issue of whether the VC had a valid driver’s licence could be confirmed through the RVIPF’s database.

I thought a guilty verdict mean by reasonable doubt. There’s no evidence. This is crazy. Therefore any one can come and say I touch their private part by word of mouth with their friends on their side as witnesses and I can be found guilty. SAD! Glen Callwood you are a great person you did your job right.
    God will see you through.

    “Beyond a Reasonable Doubt “
The standard that must be met by the prosecution's evidence in a criminal prosecution: that no other logical explanation can be derived from the facts except that the defendant committed the crime, thereby overcoming the presumption that a person is innocent until proven guilty.
If the jurors or judge have no doubt as to the defendant's guilt, or if their only doubts are unreasonable doubts, then the prosecutor has proven the defendant's guilt beyond a reasonable doubt and the defendant should be pronounced guilty.
The term connotes that evidence establishes a particular point to a moral certainty and that it is beyond dispute that any reasonable alternative is possible. It does not mean that no doubt exists as to the accused's guilt, but only that no Reasonable Doubt is possible from the evidence presented.

I'm not a callwood fan but I agree with you. He will appeal and win, not sure he'll be back on the force though.

Thats the law they will use his testimony as evidence you may not like it but it is the way it is, for example if a lil girl say someone touch her private part u think the court will just leave it as is.? There aint much differences, these jurors are usually caution before deliberations in cases like this

a lot of issues at once. If there was no valid drivers license - yes, he should have gotten a ticket. If he was speeding or taking a wrong turn, or stopping and holding up traffic- yes, he should be stopped and get a ticket. BUT it should be evenly done to every offender. Too bad Super Cop thinks he is above the law himself. Bodily harm is not appropriate-- it is wrong. A taser is a weapon. But too bad other police don't step up and uphold the basic laws like super cop does. IT's complicated.

In all my years, I have not seen one cop to compare him to. He does his job well and make the others look like the lazy behinds they are. If he made one silly mistake, suspend for a month or so, but put him back where the BVI needs him the most, in Road Town. Wish we had one of him on every end of the island. Super Cop, there should should be many more and the rest of them should be ashamed of themselves.

I am not a big fan of him and I dont think that we should be beating no drums, but seriously this boy single handily save alot of life's here in the BVI. Just look at it from this perspective how many done get seat belt and cellphone ticket from him? and if he didn't caught u iam sure it was just an accident waiting to happen which would have probably result in u killing someone else cuz u was on ur phone or killing yourselves cuz u wasn't wearing your seat belt, just my two cents.

You have till the 6 to get things in order just in case. Pay up child support, lawyer fee, rent if you dont plan to move or find a leasee etc. Just in case. Cause this one surprise me I wont be surprised by the sentence. Guilty means you off the payroll you have a week to file the appeal.

He been apart of a system that he n most people doesn't overstand. Been a cop doesn't protect u or makes u invincible2 the law. Yes he does his job n probably better than any cop on the force but I've seen headline news where cops who was swore 2 uphold the law was the same one2 broke it with some of the most gruesome crimes which include murder.
He was just2 over zealous of his work n he think he was god now he's on the other side of the fence learn n how unjust the system can b. U NEVER NO THINGS UNTIL U GET THE FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE.
