'Supa Cop' sharing tickets like rain on Tortola roads!

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Many in the community had called for the return of Glenn Callwood aka 'Supa Cop' after he was relieved of his post as a Police Officer in 2014.

Mr Callwood, known for his aggressive enforcement of the traffic laws, was found guilty of the charge of indecent assault. The Virtual Complainant, a male Maintenance Supervisor with the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF), had reported that Callwood grabbed and squeezed his private parts.

It was on November 7, 2016 that 'Supa Cop' was reinstated and is back on the streets writing tickets to erring motorists.

Today November 18, 2016 in Road Town close to the Roundabout Service Station, traffic was backed up for miles as Mr Callwood was stopping cars, trucks, SUVs and even government vehicles, while some reported also pedestrians.

He was reportedly nice to many, simply given them a warning, but brutal to others for not having on their seat belts, for being on their cellular phones and some for expired registration on their automobiles.

There were a few occasions when there were verbal spats and outright hostility from motorists, and some even refused to stop when instructed to do so.

We are not sure how many tickets were written today, but we are almost certain that the RVIPF will show an increase in revenue for the last quarter of 2016 with 'Supa Cop' back on the beat.

Some have suggested that with crime and gun violence on the rise maybe Mr Callwood could use his burst of energy for road traffic enforcement to work in the crime unit, or maybe send him to a sister island were most often road rules enforcement does not exist.

However, after the public outcry for him to return to duty as a Police Officer, ‘Supa Cop’ is back on the streets and seems to be playing catch-up for the almost two years he was off.

Motorists better be on alert as there may be a 'Super Cop' on the road near you.

don't mind the noise Officer Callwood; some of us want to do as we please: police enforce the laws some of us cuss; customs enforce the law we cuss: all over the world have law and order but some of think the BVI is their playground!!!

Leave the man let him do his job, the motoring public especially is too lawless. His specialty is enforcement of the traffic laws. There are others who handle the criminal aspect. But it's a shame to see its only Callwood who is bent on enforcing the traffic laws, left one to wonder what happen to the other street officers on the road

I would be so shame if I was one of his coworkers. Complete waste of tax payer money. Not doing a damn thing. Pushing paper maybe. I mean seriously, what do they do on a day to day basis when this guy is the only person enforcing the law. I mean litterally it's only him....!

Another ploy to suck the blood out of citizens to account for bad spending and improper planning. Without Traffic and ganja the police force wouldn't be able to justify their existence. Everywhere else the ticketing is done on a quarterly cycle to boost revenue I assume but now we have a human resource who's only job is to write tickets not enforce law.
I know he takes pride in emptying his ticket book to show what work and $$$ he's raised but if this was legitimate why aren't the other officers on the same beat? So it's best they make Callwood head of traffic division since he is the busiest foot soldier and we only care about ticketing. Since he's the best. Or why not have him influence the other divisions with his work ethic? Because it's not about that clearly

As I always say, what he is doing is petty, any cop can do that, walking around road town peeping inside peoples vehicles for seat belts, what about patrolling the west and the east end roads where big trucks and cars race at deadly speeds or lets put him on the drug force and see how he does there, the guy is now cocky and almost childess or annoying!

There are officers working at the West End and East End Police stations. They are the ones that should be patrolling the district areas. I don't see them out like Supa Cop patrolling the streets.

You have the right to your ignorant opinion. Before the end of the week there will be a real crime somewhere and we won't get any justice or resolution from it. Excessive ticketing is not policing, it's money grabbing from citizens. We don't have much police here nor do they want to have an efficient effective & educated police force, it's under the governor's portfolio so ask yourself why that is.
        • Outspoken (19/11/2016, 15:51) Like (6) Dislike (2) Reply
VILander, you are really an idiot. There is nothing as excessive ticketing, what there is, is numerous law breakers, probably like yourself, we are not living in a circus, so crime will always happen and by the way, crime in any country is not the police problem, it's the whole country problem. So not because crime is been committed, that the police must turn a blind eye to other minor violations like the breaking of the traffic rules. Turning a blind eye to simple things can lead to greater things, it's called the broken window syndrome. The Police force is under the governor because that the way the construction have it and not only the police force but also the public service. Please obey the law and you will not be offended by Callwood's approach

I can only hope that the new Commissioner of Police doesn't get a rude awakening in the near future as a result of this decision. Given the individual's track record, it would have been in his best interest to inquire and determine if there are other outstanding matters which could muddy the water. Keep hope alive.

He did more work in 2 days than the nuisance officers that were there while he was on suspension did in 2 years....SMDH...That should tell the Commissioner something, send those rest nuisance what there just to collect a pay check home, and bump up the real working officers salary. Fire those other set of nuisance cause 1 Supa cop equal 10 of them waste of space officers....You willing to tell me these people just start breaking the law after supa cop come back? Of course not, they were never doing their work, which is what people keep telling you, they either chilling out in the shade, talking to them friends or somewhere eating. Even when people block the roads right in front of them they pretend they don't see. That is the type of person that needs to be home.....

To all those complaining, if we obey the traffic laws, Supa Cop wouldn't have to issue tickets or stop so many of us. SO, whose fault is it? WE, the lawless individuals who don't like to follow rules and prefer to live lawless, disrespectful lives. No one to blame but ourselves! Plain and simple!! Deal with it or shut up!! Great job Supa Cop, so nice seeing you out and about again.

I agree. If every driver follow the rules all this would not be an issue. It's so funny that when these same complainants travel to other countries like the US & UK they follow all the traffic rules and laws as to avoid tickets or when they get tickets they pay then but because it's little BVI they think these rules should not apply to them. Hmmmm interesting!!!!!!

When people doing wrong, they don't like to be corrected. That's why alot of us find ourselves somewhere dead with no explanation and can't be found, locked up and no bail time, because living above the law is the best way to go. But this too shall pass. Pass law and correction to all. Even your children and if they don't want to take correction , well there is allways a judge with final correction be he above of be he below

Welcome back supa Cop. While he is making an effort to force motorists to observe the laws of the land, he must also be considerate in his judgments and be mindful of his actions towards the public. Yes, the traffic rules need to be enforced but it does not mean that he will be able to accomplish it all in one week or one month. Hence, on a busy Friday when the traffic is already congested, he certainly don't need to further add insult to injury by backing up the traffic unnecessarily. Secondly, he should be allowed to work on the sister islands in this capacity to share some tickets as well where many motorists continue to violate the traffic rules by driving without a license and also using uninsured / unlicensed vehicles; especially on JVD where it is a common practice.
    • Topaz (19/11/2016, 21:53) Like (8) Dislike (0) Reply
@ Realist this is no fault of Callwood, the motoring public breaks the laws every day, so why pic specific days to deal with them. As a matter of fact, it's better to deal with traffic violators when the traffic is already congested.

In an effort to support what Mr. Callwood is trying to do, it would be a good idea for the police department to do like some of the other jurisdiction and invest into a wrecker. The purpose will be to tow away all/any illegal parking vehicles on the road. There must also be an area where they can be impounded so that the owner's pay a fee for the vehicle's release. That's another way of maybe collecting some revenues. Hhhmm
