Sukhu dominates Ceres Juices 10K series opener

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- With James Carr surprisingly a no show, Ravindra Sukhu proved to be too strong for the field of competitors in the first race of the Ceres Juices 10K series on Saturday June 15, 2013.

Sukhu ran unchallenged for most of the race to win in 43:46, nearly four minutes ahead of closest rival Zebalon McLean (47:26). Third was Adrian Dale in 48:55. Rounding out the top 5 were James Shearman (49:03) and Reuben Stoby (49:15).

NiMade Oniasih (49:35) was the first female to cross the finish line in the race that started at the A.O. Shirley Ground and returned there for the finish. Oniasih finished 7th overall in the race that attracted some 30 participants, including three race walkers.

Sarah Hayes was the second female in, followed by Clare-Louise Whiley and Gilian Howe. Notably missing from the race were defending overall champion Maria Mays and Katrina Crumpler.

The race walk was won by Linda Li (1:36:47) who edged out Sophie Bennet (1:36:47).

Race organisor Key Reddy thanked sponsor Ceres for coming on board once again. She also said she was satisfied with the turnout of participants. “The 10k is a pretty tough run and there were lots of first timers. The weather was good, there was a little rain and no one got overheated.”

The next race in the series is on July 13, 2013 on Beef Island.
