Suicide committed on Norwegian Escape ship docked in USVI
CHARLOTTE AMALIE, St Thomas, USVI— A Norwegian Escape ship docked in St Thomas, US Virgin Islands (USVI) on Monday January 9, 2017 was the site of a suicide incident, [US] Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) Media Specialist Sakeeda Freeman announced today, January 11, 2017.
According to Ms Freeman, at roughly 4:12 A.M., the Criminal Investigation Bureau was notified of an apparent suicide aboard the Escape. Officials from the ship had notified the Virgin Islands Police Department Investigation Bureau that a male had apparently leaped from the 17th deck of the ship and landed on the 7th deck.
According to Ms Freeman, an investigation revealed that 22-year-old David Svyatetskiy of Castle Rock, Colorado — who was traveling with his family — had sometime shortly after midnight on Monday, traveled to the 17th deck of the ship and jumped landing several decks below. Mr Svyatetskiy succumbed to his injuries sustained during the fall, according to Ms Freeman.
A preliminary investigation ruled the incident as a suicide.
