ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The Althea Scatliffe Primary School (ASPS) held a successful career day on June 12, 2015 during which persons from all manner of professions shared their knowledge and even experience regarding their profession with attentive students who were more than keen to ask various questions.

The event took place at the school where Grade Six students came dressed in their various choices of profession.

When this news site arrived at the school, a number of sessions had already gone but there were professionals waiting to join classrooms to make their presentations to the students.

While there, this news site observed doctors, accountants, firemen, cooks and many other persons of varying professions awaiting their turn to be heard.

The students were very interested in the duties of a journalist and what it entails to work in journalism. They were told, by one of our reporters, of the various forms of the profession. Many questions were asked by the students regarding the exciting work in journalism for which answers were provided.

The action then moved outside the classrooms for highly anticipated demonstrations of the firemen at work, turning on the fire hoses in the school's compound and giving the children a feel of what it is like to be a fireman.

Principal of the Althea Scatliffe Primary School, Marietta Flax-Headley said the event was a success and repeating it yearly would be in order.

“Everything went pretty well. We were thankful that the community bought into the idea of coming on board. The presenters were well prepared and they gave the students a lot of food for thought for the career that they would like and what it takes to be successful at their chosen career,” said Flax-Headley.

Good to see our young people having a keen interest in the selective careers but it seems as if no one wants to be a janitor, drain cleaners, sanitary workers, etc or the best in the No 1 and NO 2 business, as all careers are of importance too
