Stop being 'idiots' & 'stupid' - Edmund G. Maduro tells VI
Mr Maduro was speaking on his EGM Show on Thursday night February 18, 2016 on ZROD 103.7 FM.
He read out Article 35 of the Constitution under Governor and lamented the powers which are conferred on that person where they seemingly evade prosecution.
“Subject to the provisions of this Constitution or by any other law by which powers or duty are conferred upon the governor, the governor shall do and execute all things that belong to his or her office including the exercise of any power to which the governor is empowered by this Constitution to act in his or her discretion…” he read.
“But to question whether or not the Governor has complied with any such instructions shall not be inquired into any court. This is a basic racial disgrace. It is discriminatory. If our Premier and other elected representatives, elected by us can be sent to jail for doing wrong why do we discriminate against them and give the governor all of this authority we should be able to take him to court and prosecuted. This is one section of the Constitution that needs to be taken out,” he argued.
He said the Governor is above the law and the Constitution facilitates this.
“The Governor is a man like any other man,” said Maduro.
Governor “corrupting” the process
A former member of the NHI Concerned Citizens and Residents Group, Maduro had accused Governor John S. Duncan OBE of corrupting the process of getting a petition on behalf of the people to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and accused the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office of abusing and disgracing the authority of Her Majesty.
Maduro, along with Natalio D. Wheatley aka Sowande Uhuru, Winston E. Nibbs aka La Fontey, Doug Wheatley and a host of other persons had sought to send a petition calling on government to withdraw the controversial National Health Insurance (NHI) and iron out numerous concerns before implementing it. Not being satisfied with the non-committal response given by Premier Dr The Honourable D. Orlando Smith to the petition submitted to him on October 13, 2015, the Group sought to up the ante and send it to the Queen but did so through the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office, much to the disappointment of Maduro.
According to Maduro, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office sent down a letter in response to the petitioners request for an audience with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. He said, however, that the letter was not signed.
He said the Group wanted to go and see the Governor and he advised them against it. “All they had to do was say to the Governor here is the petition. I want you to forward it on to Her Majesty the Queen, because the Constitution says that executive authority of the Virgin Islands shall be in the Queen. So you cannot go through any Foreign and Commonwealth Office, you have to send it straight to the Queen and then she can send it to the Parliament and ask for advice if she so needs,” said Maduro in an earlier interview with this news site.
“I told them that the Governor was just corrupting the whole situation because he is here representing Her Majesty the Queen and everything he has to do must be in accordance with the Queen because he represents her,” he said.
Maduro warned that people must stop being "idiots" and "stupid" and take control of their future by knowing their Constitution and demanding that it be adhered to.

Stupid and idiot are good words to describe Mr M....o. He is caught up with crying racism and discrimination that he does not realise that he is the racist and discriminates on that basis.
But I agree with you that private doctor's claims need to be regulated. One way to do that is to use some of the NHI funds to staff the hospital and clinics with competent nurses and doctors.
