ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Radio talk show host Edmund G. Maduro said he cannot understand why Chairman of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) and Leader of the Opposition Honourable Julian Fraser RA (R3) is facing opposition within his own political party.

He was at the time speaking in an exclusive interview with this news site yesterday August 16, 2015.

"Honourable Fraser is a man who has stood up for a number of issues which I praise him for," he said.

"I did not like the move that Mr Fahie made after the elections," he said, referring to the efforts First District Representative Honourable Andrew A. Fahie made to try to wrest the Leader of the Opposition position from Honourable Fraser.

"In fact I spoke out against it. I said the Governor should not be asking any questions. ..he should know that it was Mr Fraser who should be Leader of the Opposition," he said.

"He took a month to do that which shows ignorance...either ignorance or corruption," he said, in reference to the month and a day Governor John S. Duncan OBE took to come up with his decision which he eventually made in favour of Honourable Fraser to be the Leader of the Opposition.

Several of the VIP’s losing candidates had written to Governor Duncan endorsing Hon Fahie to be the Opposition Leader.
There were also reports that some candidates blamed Hon Fraser for their loss at the elections and wanted him out as Chairman.

"Stop abusing the man. We all have our weaknesses and our strengths...none of us is perfect," he said.

He added that Honourable Fraser has stood up when the time came for him to stand up and has done so more than others in his party who were trying to throw him out. "I respect the man," he said.

The positions of Chairman, President, Treasurer and others become vacant and eligible to be filled come September 2, 2015 when the VIP's internal elections are held at Maria’s By the Sea. It is yet unclear whether Honourable Fraser will face the VIP membership to contest the position of Chairman as he has not so stated, choosing to remain silent on the issue.

the man's political associates wants nothing to do with; I am speak about members from his own political party, the very same persons who shared the political platform with Fraser have an issue with him and they made that very public: my question for maduro; if the member for the 3rd is not embraced by his own political party affiliates, what message and what impression you expect the voting public to get: he is not part of the solution for a better VIP party, home-boy is the problem: some of us wants the VIP back in power because VIP has always been the party of the small man:

@CCC; I agree that he will win in Congress and continue to win the 3rd district: I thought this matter was bigger than just district representation: the head of the VIP will become our next Premier and we all know how the voting public ( not Congress) feels about his leadership status

While I agree that both Fraser and Fahie held NDP feet to the fire on many issues (and rightfully so), he put his foot in his mouth too many times. It's that loose cannon mentality of whining that is the problem. When backed in a corner like on the floor, sure fight. But when leading it takes a whole other set of skills, delegation and compromise.

BOL...When I hear Edmund speak all I could do is just smh because truth be told that's all you can do when it comes to him. Here he is defending fraser but isn't he the same one who has kicked up against the man. Does Biwater, the streetlights at the roundabout or the structure up at the airport ring a bell. Edmund is just unbelievable it's not even funny
