CARROT BAY, Tortola, VI- Top distance runner Reuben J.A. Stoby was made to work hard to preserve his unbeaten record in 10k road racing as main rivals Guy Williamson and Julius Farley turned up for a fight in the Carrot Bay leg of the Ceres Juices 10K Series this morning, July 4, 2015.

The trio held together, over hills and off road, until the final mile when Stoby dug deep to win in 42:20, with Williamson taking second in 42:41 and Farley third in 42:55.

Rosmond Johnson took her second win of the series for ladies, clocking 53:41. Johnson received competition from Melissa Brunner (54:35), who had to settle for second in the end, while NiMade Oniasih (56:37) took third place.

The race started in front of Festival Ground in Carrot Bay and made its way to Smugglers Cove and returned to the start line for the finish.

Stoby, Farley, and Williamson broke away early with Farley choosing to front run and Stoby and Williamson settling and occasionally surging but never managing to make a breakaway.

Farley began to fade on the return along Capoon’s Bay with less than two miles to go when the NAGICO Insurances sponsored athlete, Stoby, gradually increased his pace but Williamson held on until the start of the final mile when Stoby, who won the opening race of the series in Road Town in 40:30.03, began pushing for home.

The Carrot Bay leg 10K attracted 37 runners.

The next race of the series is on July 25, 2015 at Beef Island.
