PARAQUITA BAY, Tortola, VI- Reuben J.A. Stoby and Katrina Crumpler were the respective male and female winners of the Blenheim Trust 5K race held at Paraquita Bay on May 2, 2015. Their recent wins also guaranteed them the series.

Stoby completed the course, known as the ‘Paraquita Beast’, in 19:18.25 to remain unbeaten in road racing this year.

Julius Farley (19:54) overtook Rodrigo Dos Santos (20:14) for second place.

“My legs were feeling a bit tired from hill training ahead of the VG Half Marathon so I went out rather easy but noticed Dos Santos, who I wasn’t familiar with, keeping up and breathing quite calmly so I decided to up the pace a little after the first mile,” Stoby said after the race.

Farley also said he was looking to relax in the race to preserve his legs for next week.

Dos Santos stated that he lost out on second place in trying to keep up with Stoby. “When he took off I was trying to catch him but I almost hit a wall and was overtaken [by Farley],” Mr Dos Santos commented.

Meanwhile, Stoby has also taken the Blenheim 5K series, having won three of four races of the 5-race series. Tarique Moses won the first race.

Katrina Crumpler (21:55.78) was a clear winner in the women’s category as she ran unchallenged. Rosmond Johnson was second in 24:24 while Anna Kinkead took third in 25:07.

Krumpler said she was hoping to run under 21:30 but was nevertheless contented with her performance.

In the one mile race for boys, Sammy Potgeiter made it home first in 8:17 while Sebbie Morgan took second in 11:53 and Xavier Morgan third in 12:10.

Most runners are now toning down preparations for the Virgin Gorda Half Marathon on May 9, 2015.
