CARROT BAY, Tortola, VI – Stewart Donovan, the Chairman of the Carrot Bay Cultural Fiesta Committee, said that he will be stepping down after a number of years at the helm of Festival celebration activities in that community.

He was speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2014 Carrot Bay Cultural Fiesta on Thursday August 7, 2014.

“This year I would say is a bittersweet one for myself because it is probably more than likely it will be the last time that I stand before you in this capacity as Chairperson of the Carrot Bay Cultural Fiesta [Committee],” Donovan said.

“I have been involved in this I think for almost 16 years now and the majority of that as the Chairperson of the Committee,” he said.

“It is something that I got involved with because it is something that I love and to be involved with Festival you must have a passion [and love] for Festival,” Donovan said.

“I’ve watched the Carrot Bay Cultural Fiesta blossom and grow to what it is today. I have a lot of great memories. Mistakes we’re made a few but then again too few to mention,” he said, quoting the words of a famous song by Frank Sinatra.

“To the hardworking committee I must thank you because without the support of the Minister for Education and Culture what we have here today could not be possible,” said Donovan.

However Minister for Education and Culture Myron V. Walwyn said that he needed to speak with Donovan about his decision to step down, citing that he was an asset to the committee because of his hard working nature, dedication and love for country and for Festival.

“I know he said that this might be his last year but there are some very famous words, I won’t say who the author is, but I would say we have to talk,” said Minister Walwyn.

The song that's being quoted is named "I Did It My Way." that in itself should have the selfish nature with most of the people volunteer for things on this island. And that's why most of the programs here are one man shows because they don't know how to work with others collectively.
