ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – At Large Representative, Hon. Archibald Christian in speaking about the ongoing national clean-up campaign, noted that it was a very serious programme that may ultimately determine the success of the Territory in time to come.

“I regard it as a very, very serious programme,” Hon. Archie stated, “The state of our country is going to determine how successful we are down the road and how we’re gonna survive.”

The Hon. Representative expressed this during the NDP radio show on September 17, 2012 aired on a local radio station.

Hon. Christian, the Co-ordinator of the national clean-up campaign, stated that, “This effort to clean up the BVI is gonna take a little time, because we have several initiatives that we want to launch.”

He continued by saying that, ”I signed a letter a few weeks ago with the Chairman of the Tourist Board to [have] a certain company to assist us with removing certain items”.

He further expressed that it was hoped that the programme will be launched shortly.

Regarding the removal of bins he said, we have challenges because of our terrain, so in certain areas, we will be able or we will be trying to implement regular pickups on certain days.

“Because of our terrain we still have to have the contractors have the garbage picked up,” he said.

The objective at the end of the day, Hon. Archie concluded, is to instil, again, in the schools at a very young age, the reason why we do not litter and I’m hoping that as minister Walwyn was able to launch his ceremony, that at some point in time we will be able to launch a garbage recycling initiative throughout the territory.
