‘Stars in Education’ highlight in Education week 2014

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The Stars in the education system of the Virgin Islands will be one of the main highlights in the observations of Education Week 2014.

Education week will be celebrated from today March 9, 2014 and will culminate on Saturday March 15, 2014, closing with the Virgin Islands Stars in Education Award Ceremony, however the venue has not yet been official named.

It could not have been confirmed if this activity replaces the $100k gala event that had sparked much controversy, not for the teachers and those honoured but the lavish spending that was done especially at a time when the government has been cutting ends to make finances stretch.

The first activity kicking off the week long celebrations will be the education Week Opening Ceremony at the Sir Rupert Briercliffe Hall. This is expected to be a grand event as teachers and students alike are expected in large numbers among the leaders and other members of community are all set to be present.

On Monday, March 10, 2014 the Department of Education has organized participatory activities to coincide with Commonwealth Day Activities at the Ivan Dawson Primary School while on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 the will stage the Caribbean Arts and Crafts Exhibition/Workshops at the Sir Olva Georges Plaza, Road Town.

The next activity will be Wednesday, March 12, 2014, All Day School-based Activities, Thursday, March 13, 2013 is set aside for Inter-Primary School Championships with a March Past and Official Ceremony at the A.O. Shirley Recreational Grounds. On Friday March 14, will Open House activities at all Schools and the week closes on Saturday March 15, 2014 with the Virgin Islands Stars in Education Award Ceremony.
