PALESTINA ESTATE, Tortola, VI- In preparation for the new academic year 2016 - 2017, St George’s Secondary School today June 9, 2016 held an Open House for prospective students who will begin their secondary education when the new school year begins.

Scores of students attended the Open House in batches of 30 for easier manageability and they came mostly from the St George’s Primary School and engaged in a day of activities that would inform them what it will be like to be a student of the school.

Speaking to this news site, Principal of the St George’s Secondary School Dr Antoinette P. Rock noted that the school was open to the public. “We want everybody to come in and see the school at work. We want the public to see us operating at our normal daily activities,” said Dr Rock.

She said that this morning the school saw over 50 primary school children participating in the Open House. “They were taken around the school in groups of six. They were especially interested in our Art exhibits in our Art lab; they were encouraged to take part in Chemistry experiements in the Chemistry lab; they were encouraged to sit in on classes,” she said.

She noted that the students spent about one hour and got a feel for what a day in the life of a St George’s Secondary School student would be.

“At the end of the session I spoke with the students. The majority of the students said that they loved the experience and would love to come to the school. However we know that there are some constraints and not everybody could come,” said Dr Rock.

President of the St George’s PTA Karia J. Christopher said that the open house is for everybody. “We advertised it for both public and private primary schools as we recognised that George’s had the opportunity to open its doors and add new faces to what we have to offer,” she said.

Noting that parents take education very seriously, Christopher said St George’s Secondary School offers the full package of good education, small classroom size and a Christian background which she said would help them to get their message across better.

“It has been the same school all along. The Principal, Dr Rock, has been a breath of wonderful fresh air and it has really been her idea to have an open house so that we can really open our doors to everyone in the British Virgin Islands and not just our primary school,” said Christopher.

It was disappointing some of the primary school students didn't get to go because the female teacher thought it sounded boring SMH Look what our education system has come to

If the school fees at St. George's High School are too high...what then do you say about Cedar and Montessori? It is called investing in your child's education, either you want to pay or you don't, take it or leave it but stop complaining. I guess you'll want the Government to fix this too?

It's quite amusing that the two people complaining that the school fees are too high, can't spell "too"! LMAO!! Maybe your parents should have invested in St George's!

Say what you want about St Georges but it's a much better alternative than Elmore Stoutt. This new principal seems to have great ideas and great support. I wish them the best and look forward to hearing great things.
