ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – A 38 year-old man fingered in transporting two suitcases of money to the Territory’s airport, and handing it over to an alleged accomplice for it to be flown overseas, will stand trial in the Magistrate’s Court on January 20, 2012.

Luis Ramon Sprauve is charged with assisting another with retaining the benefits of criminal conduct. He has pleaded not guilty.

The Crown claimed that the defendant is part of a drug trafficking ring that came to light earlier in the year, and according to police records Sprauve allegedly transported the undisclosed amount of money which was then flown out by a private aircraft YV436T bound for Venezuela.

It is alleged that on Sunday, August 7, at 6:55 a.m., a small white vehicle pulled up at the Terrance B. Lettsome International airport and the accused in the driver’s seat was seen reversing from the departure to the arrival area where he met Linda Todman-Huggins, a Customs Officer who has since been sentenced to two years for bribery and assisting another with retaining the benefits of criminal conduct.

CCTV footage shows the individual removing a suitcase from the passenger’s side and giving it to Mrs. Todman-Linda Huggins, and from the back of the vehicle, another suitcase was taken and the defendant allegedly carried it to the arrival area where Customs is located.

While in the Customs area, it is alleged that the two suitcases were handed over to a male person identified as a ground staff who took the suitcases to the privately owned aircraft at 7:23 a.m. which left the Territory. The Crown contends that possibly $2M were in the suitcases.

Sprauve is on $70,000 bail and is represented by J. S Archibald and Co.

This case has no merit anywhere else in the world. #1 the cctv footage is garbage, the person driving the car looks like President Obama, #2 because of (#1) they can't even identify the car, #3 "The Crown contends that possibly $2M were in the suitcases", so they don't know or can't prove what were in the suitcases? I hope that Luis was not involved as he has maintained his innocence and the Police are just trying to tie as much people into this as possible to get eveidence on who they already have.
