‘Speaking your mind a waste of time!’ – Talk show caller

A caller to the Speak Your Mind television talk show last Saturday October 11, 2014 believes it is a waste of time to speak out in the Territory because of the lack of action on Government’s part with regards to complaints by the public and the perceived unfairness of the justice system. ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – A caller to the Speak Your Mind television talk show last Saturday October 11, 2014 believes it is a waste of time to speak out in the Territory because of the lack of action on Government’s part with regards to complaints by the public and the perceived unfairness of the justice system.

However, host of the show Richard Courtney De Castro encouraged the caller to continue speaking his mind because it is a right that is denied many citizens of countries around the world.

The show was aired on JTV Live from around 8:00 Saturday evening.

“To me, it is a waste of time talking about speak your mind because the same thing is going on every day,” said the caller.

“If I do a crime they gon lock me up, right? They thiefing the Government money, you supposed to lock them up to,” said the irate caller on the programme, expressing frustration that such is not happening in the Territory. “We ain’t blind…not because I got on shades on my eye. We seeing what going on,” said the caller.

“I will still encourage you to speak your mind though because the one thing we are still allowed to do is speak. In some countries you’re not even allowed to speak. You have to be careful what you say, you could get locked just for speaking,” said De Castro.

“So once we can speak we will continue to speak and we will continue to dialogue because you raised some very important points,” he said.

The caller raised the issue of crime and wanted to know what is being done to address these.

“There are a lot of different categories of crime. We have a lot of crime and justice is supposed to be blind,” host De Castro said, making the point that not all of the crimes get the punishment they deserve.

“Justice is supposed to represent all assets of society not just one particular asset of society,” said De Castro.

as anthropologist margaret mead said- "never doubt that a group of thoughtful committed people can change the world. Indeed it is the only thing that ever has!"

speak out often. Someone will finally catch it.

When people call to complain about everything but offer no solutions and don't care about facts, of course it's a waste of time. But hey, let's blame Government and expats, that's easier. What the fuck we expect in this place with the current attitudes? Everybody is an expert at everything but master of none. Speaking your mind makes no sense if you will be talking pure shit. Let's have a SOLUTIONS HOTLINE! That makes more sense. You have a panel on radio or TV which is nothing to do with politics. Government cannot do everything. Let people call in and put forward ideas as to how we can move the country forward and even go as far as volunteering our expertise and time where possible. That's how you move your country forward. The problem is most people don't care about that. They use the talk shows as their outlet to air their personal issues, it has nothing to do with country. When we get serious about the country, we will have Solutions. Talking and ranting like jackasses gets us nowhere. You can put Courtney, Sam, Alred and Ulric all together and they can't come up with one concrete idea to even keep the grass around the Territory low.

      @ nonsense
you yourself talking nonsense. It sounds like sense to people who don't know what is going on. We living in hard economic times and if outspoken people like me have to speak up and even be on a solution committee, you will see how fast the politician dem shut us down and threaten our jobs. You ain see how they done had all government employees sign a confidentiality agreement???? what you think that is??? a form of control, an indication that you better shut up or else.

Don't pretend that you blind. You know that when these bad a..es in politics want to do what they want to do, they are not going to let anyone stand in their way. They will find a way to shut you up. It goes on even on the job. We have supervisors in government warming up leather seats and doing what they want out of people, just because they have politicians on their sides.

My opinion is: A man can do what ever he wants to do for a much as he wants to do it, but there comes a time when the Almighty says, "Enough is enough". A lot of these people go around victimizing people, but when God ready to put them on their backs to lay down for a few weeks at Peebles til they close their eyes, they will know what time of the day it is. Then they will look up in the sky, flat on their backs wondering, Lord what did I do to deserve this.

One day the Lord will hear the cry of HIS people and react, don't worry, JUST KEEP TALKING

This is how dey dealing wid justice. Holding up de case is denying these officers justice.
