CANE GARDEN, BAY, Tortola, VI – The large gathering of well-wishers who had congratulatory messages for Mr and Mrs William and Josephine Rhymer on their 75th wedding anniversary heard that many marriages end shortly after they make their vow in today’s society and 75 years together in a marriage is worthy of high commendation.

“That is the embodiment of genuine and unconditional love and I think it’s a recipe and something for us to emulate,” said Speaker of the House of Assembly Hon Ingrid A. Moses, having been genuinely moved and impressed at the 75 years of union of Mr and Mrs William and Josephine Rhymer.

It was the occasion of the couple’s 75th wedding anniversary and members of the Government and the House of Assembly (HoA) joined with family, friends and other well-wishers in the celebration at the couple’s Round Hill, Cane Garden Bay home yesterday September 25, 2015.

“In spite of the sadness around us at this present time, I think this is just a joy and a blessing in the midst of everything that’s happening,” added Hon Moses as she told those present, especially the children of the couple, that they have an excellent model, “And I think it’s for us as well as the community to really continue to bear them up in prayer and to emulate exactly what they have been doing for the last 75 years.”

Honourable Moses, however, was not the only one to express amazement at the extensive years of togetherness of the couple who are now in their 90s. Member of the Opposition and Representative for the First District Honourable Andrew A. Fahie said, “75 years is an institution of marriage. Some people can’t stay married from the pulpit to the pew, some can’t stay married from pulpit to the parking lot…If you want an example not only of marriage but of true love this is an example here of true love and it shows you that love is not just about the good days and bad days, these are people who actually honoured their vows.”

Among others present to share in the moment with the couple and their families were Acting Premier Dr The Honourable Kedrick D. Pickering who expressed congratulations on behalf of members of Cabinet.

Minister for Health and Social Development Hon Ronnie W. Skelton, At Large Representative Hon Archibald C. Christian, Minister for Communications and Works Hon Mark H. Vanterpool (R4), Representative for the Second District Hon Melvin M. Turnbull, former Premier and Leader of the Opposition Hon Ralph T. O’Neal OBE, and former Member of the Opposition and leader of the People’s Empowerment Party (PEP) Mr J. Alvin Christopher were also in attendance.

Also present were the couple’s 10 children, from youngest to oldest, Ms Violet de Castro, Janet Rhymer Niles, Mr Elroy Rhymer, William Rhymer Jr, Shirley Rhymer-Abednego, Joyce Mack, Henry Rhymer, Joseph Rhymer, Dennis Rhymer and Allan Rhymer.

The celebration/ thanksgiving party was also flooded by the couple’s many grand and great grandchildren, among others.

Patience is a virtue and it is part of God's Holy Spirit. Galatians 5: 22. Thus, is this something for you to be proud of?

Thoughts become words, words become actions, actions become habits and your habits become your character.

The Devil cannot stand the word of God. Hence the reason for the dislike(s).

Marriage is a gift from Jehovah God and people should show respect for this sanctified gift.

There are too many individuals in this Territory that are continually interferring with other peoples' marriages and wreaking havocs on homes, families and children. Some of these same induviduals going to God's house every Sunday for 2-3 hours and the remainder of hours of the week until the next Sunday visit, they in bed with the Devil. But they will pay for their wickedness. Some of them done start reaping what they sowed.

" is the embodiment of genuine and unconditional love and I think it’s a recipe and something for us to emulate," said Speaker of the House of Assembly Hon Ingrid A. Moses.

How do you define genuine and unconditional love? Also, if this is something for us to emulate, you be the first one to do so.

And as Fahie said: "...these are people who actually honoured their vows." Yes, honoured, the operative word here.

For richer, for poorer, better, for worse, in sickness and in health until death parts us. Marriage should not be taken lightly but with all seriousness.
