‘Some Ministers’ answers were embarrassing’ – PEP’s Julia Christopher

-PEP’s President Natalio D. Wheatley aka Sowande Uhuru said Ministers' egos get in the way of proper answers
“I was very surprised by some of the answers that I heard…all of them were not bad but some of them were totally [bad]. I wasn’t happy and as a Virgin Islander I was totally embarrassed because I feel that the people have a right to know…the public has a right to know,” Ms Julia Christopher said. Photo: Facebook

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Member of the People’s Empowerment Party (PEP) Ms Julia Christopher said she was embarrassed as a Virgin Islander to hear some of the answers that Government Ministers gave in the House of Assembly to questions by members of the Opposition on Tuesday February 17, 2015.

She was speaking on PEP’s radio show heard on Monday February 23, 2015 on ZBVI 780 AM between the hours of 8:00 and 9:00 PM.

“One point that I would like to make…it is that the answers that are given in the House of Assembly…I really believe that the Ministers should take the answering of these questions very seriously,” she said.

“I was very surprised by some of the answers that I heard…all of them were not bad but some of them were totally [bad]. I wasn’t happy and as a Virgin Islander I was totally embarrassed because I feel that the people have a right to know…the public has a right to know,” she said.

“I wasn’t there personally and I cannot go into the House and ask these questions, so I am glad when someone asks a question on my behalf as a Virgin Islander and I would like to hear the answers…proper answers,” she stressed.

President of PEP Natalio D. Wheatley aka Sowande Uhuru chimed in at this point, saying that sometimes egos get into the way of proper answers on the part of the Government Ministers.

“The representatives are not asking of themselves…I think sometimes egos get involved and you think the Opposition member wants to trip you up so you’re not going to give him a straight answer. But it is not for the Opposition member; it is for the people, and if you’re doing what you are supposed to be doing then there is no need for any secrecy,” said Wheatley.

Over 100 questions by the Opposition were slated to be asked and answered at the sitting of February 12, 2015 but the Government moved a motion to shift the question and answer period to the end of the sitting and because of the time it took to get through the other Government business, questions and answers had to be left for the continuation of the sitting on February 17, 2015.

    Ms:Christopher:

You may have some good points, however they are meaningless unless you give the "people/public " some examples of the bad answers as stated in your blog.

That's the funny part. Its very easy for anybody to sit back and criticize what you have done. The hard part is showing where it's wrong and doing it better. PPA, PEP and VIP are the same, they all tell you what NDP doing wrong but they can't explain why it's wrong or how it should be done. No clue!

Whether they are ready or not, I am becoming more impressed with the calm demeanor and clear talk from PEP. Yes, I want to hear more of how they think and what they want to do. But at least they are not name-calling or pointing fingers like a child. I think a mix of all three parties would bring compromise and a stronger government.

They are not name calling? Whose name can they call? Lorie? Alvin? Sowande? Julia? Do you think they foolish enough to start that game? PEP soon POP because they are just pure nice talk, I'm not the least bit impressed by either of them. They have no solutions and have no idea what the man on the street wants. Which one of them do you see around people? Julia? Sowande? Lars? Give me a break.

I am no PEP but I will take the names you mentioned any time of the day over the fools and NDP spoke persons like Pope, Joe jack, Myron and the lady with the bad words…now go make the comparison

the reason they are not name calling and so calm is because no one is paying them no attention or bringing any heat to them. but once this starts then you going see the way they defend themselves.

After alvin got the same government to take his building
and paid it off in two years, he got the balls to call them down.

After his blunder with a 2 million dollar bridge end up costing
10 million dollars, do he really think people will forget these
    things.
The seasoned politians just dont get it that people are NO longer
    stupid.

Don't forget the Rolls Royce engines for BVIEC under his watch. The only Minister in the history of BVI politics to be fired by both major parties.

The politicians kill anybody? Please! Life has no reverse gear, sure. Would you hire someone that has been to jail 10 times for stealing, as the cashier for your company? Shut the hell up and snap into reality. People deserve second chances depending on the situation but your past does matter especially if you are a long-serving politician with plenty of blunders under your belt and now telling us that you want to be the Premier and Minister of Finance in these times. GTFOH!

Answers cannot be bad, Ms Christopher.
Answers can be incomplete, inappropriate, difficult to understand and so forth.
Accusations with no specifics against person(s) is bad behaviour.
So Ms Christopher, you are behaving badly .
Your purpose and intentions, if in fact you are seeking political office would be appropriate behaviour.

So move on? why can't they move on from the cruise ship s..t when the project is moving? It's move on when it comes to PEP and VIP but keep on, when it comes to NDP? Yo all too damn one sided.

Some people don't understand diplomacy. Are we really ready for the truth? Can we handle the truth? The truth to some of these questions are so embarrassing and disturbing that we all will look bad in the long run. The opposition has been playing on the biggest weakness of the Orlando Smith Government - their enability to make the other side look bad by telling the nasty truth because it hurts the country if they do so. If all Ministers were to spill the beans like Mark did particially, can you imagine what outsiders will think of the country as a whole? The picture would not look good at all. Judging by the way these opposition guys have been fighting for power and making unsupported nasty comments in public there is no telling what they would do and how nasty things would get. While I might have a right to know the whole truth, is it something I really need to know if it will destroy what is left of the reputation we still have as being one of the richest Caribbean nations in the Western hemisphere? I think not....
