CARROT BAY, Tortola, VI- On a day of poor catches despite calm seas and brilliant sunshine, Smith Robin emerged the winner of the Elmore Stoutt Fishermen’s Tournament in Carrot Bay on August 6, 2015.

Robin, who has racked up quite a collection of trophies over the years for winning various fishermen’s tournaments, had the Most Overall Catch of 145lbs, a meagre catch compared to what Robin is accustomed to reeling in.

“I just love fishing, it’s what I do. Whether I am in the BVI or somewhere else this is what I will continue to do," Mr Smith Robin told Virgin Islands News Online.

He noted too that conditions were good and he wasn’t too disappointed with his catch.

Mr Robin won the Hon Andrew A. Fahie trophy.

Other winners

The Dinghy Class category was won by Mr Andrew Stoutt with his vessel ‘The Blessed One’.

Mr Stoutt brought in 100 lbs of fish while in the B Category (under 24 ft vessel), last year’s overall winner Mr Milton Farrington and crew came in with 95 lbs on their vessel ‘X-Rated’.

There was a tie in the Overall Biggest Fish category with both Larry Henley in ‘The Marina’ and Kerbie Hodge in vessel ‘Fishing Attraction’ reeling in a 20lb kingfish.

The Special Fish category was also won by Henley.

A fair size crowd witnessed the weighing of the fish that was almost immediately after snapped up by some aggressive ladies who were keen on going home with a decent parcel of fish. The ladies often swarmed the catch and forced the men with their empty bags to just look on.

Among the catch were tuna, kingfish, mahi mahi and hard nose.

I think We should Done with Carrot Bay--Use that money to revive and continue Music Festival--Music Festival is a better Investment in terms of attracting tourist to the country, more and better mileage for our monies.---In Any case, like one person suggested--Which I think is excellent--close--out the activities in Road Town--With a local band competition---select six of the BVI top bands and have each Band do a 45 minutes session. --Criteria includes- musicians who have proof of residency, one original song, plus one local recorded song, 15 minutes to start after the band before finished, music clarity, music style and stage appearance and management. At the End you have a prize, check giving and thank you ceremony. Six Judges, each band submits a judge....In this world of my way, or no way, the people with the power always get their way (sad)

WHY GET RID OF THE CARROT FESTIVAL WHEN THAT IS ONE THAT'S REALLY "CULTURAL". FROM THE FISHING TOURNAMENT, TO THE DONKEY RACES ETC. THE 'VIBE' AT CARROT BAY IS ONE THAT'S REALLY PLEASING TO EVERYONE. I DONT THINK GETTING RID OF IT WOULD BE SUCH A GOOD IDEA

I really do not get the point of getting rid of the Carrot Bay Festival activities which take place on August Friday. It seems more like bad mind why someone would think about getting rid of the day. That day is a family day and everyone who attends, enjoys the activities. It seems to me like we here in the VI only think of other persons enjoyment rather than our own. Why should the festivities change to the Music Fest for the Tourist? Please let common sense prevail.
