ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Both Leslee J. Smith and Dion J. Edwin went perfect from the free throw line, but only Smith’s Bristol Flyers came away with a win in weekend Basketball action for Virgin Islands’ ballers abroad.

Bristol Flyers extended their win streak to six games, as they secured yet another home win, beating the visiting Worcester Wolves 81-73.

Bristol turned away a thunderous Wolves fourth quarter comeback attempt. Aaron Cosby leading Flyers off the bench, scoring 26 points in 28 minutes for the Flyers win.

Leslee Smith finished with 19 points, went a perfect 5 for 5 from the free throw line, picked off 1 steal, made 2 blocks and grabbed 12 rebounds.

Kent State beaten by Western Michigan

The Kent State University men's basketball team (9-8, 1-3 MAC) lost a hard fought road game Saturday, falling to the Western Michigan Broncos (6-10, 2-2 MAC), 92-88.

Five players scored in double figures Saturday, January 14, 2017 led by a double-double effort from Jimmy Hall. He led the Golden Flashes with 24 points on 8-for-11 shooting and 10 rebounds. Deon J. Edwin and Desmond Ridenour each had a team-high five assists, along with 16 and 10 points, respectively. Edwin was a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor.

Kahlil Thomas (Parkway, FL/Blanche Ely) posted his MAAC-leading eighth double-double with a career-high 24 points and 14 rebounds, but the Rider University men’s basketball team fell at Manhattan, 76-73, Friday night at Draddy Gym. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 11-6 (4-2 MAAC), while the Jaspers improve to 7-11 (2-5 MAAC). 

VI’s Norville Carey finished with 5 points, 3 rebounds and a steal in 17 minutes of court time.
