Small aircraft loses wheel on TB Lettsome Airport runway

BEEF ISLAND, VI – The circumstances surrounding the incident is yet not clear, however, a small aircraft lost one of its wheels while on the runway of the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport on Beef Island this morning, June 5, 2015.

There were reportedly no injuries or other physical damage to the aircraft. The right rear wheel of the aircraft came off as the aircraft was on the runway. It is not clear whether the plane had just landed or was preparing for takeoff.

The incident, which occurred sometime around 11:30am, was confirmed by the BVI Airports Authority (BVIAA). Speaking with this news site, an officer said there was indeed “a situation”, however, at the time of this news site making contact the problem was dealt with and the operations at the airport were back to normal.

The officer also said he was not in the position to divulge any further information as such could have only been released by the BVIAA Chairman, Mr Denniston Fraser, who was out at the time.

    That looks like a Piaggio Avanti P180. It's a 9 passenger plane and very fast. Very expensive and usually used as a commuter for the rich and famous.

    It's a beautiful aircraft and very fast with those pusher props. It's about $7000000 + fully equipped with modern avionics
