Six charged with vigilante murder in Guyana
GEORGETOWN, Guyana- Six men between the ages of 18 and 47 years were Monday arraigned for the alleged vigilante-style murder of a suspected thief who hailed from the Corentyne.
They were not required to plea the indictable offence when they appeared before Magistrate Krisendat Persaud at the Whim Magistrates’ Court.
They were remanded to prison until May 20 when they are scheduled to return to court.
They are charged with beating Alfred “Guana Man” Munroe of 45 Manchester, Corentyne on April 9 at Bound Yard, Port Mourant, Corentyne.
The accused are Randolph “Rudy” Samuel,22, Aris Cecil, 21- both of Port Mourant- Richard “Buck Head” Griffith,19, Michael “Mickey” Lewis,31, Jafar Seeteram,18, and Khruhnaraj Jagdeo- all of Rose Hall Town, Corentyne.
The sextet’s defence lawyers are Rodwell Jagmohan, Sanjeev Datadin and Charles Ramson, Jr.
Investigators were told that the accused allegedly beat Munroe and Annie “Short Hair” Persaud, tied them with a rope and drove them away much to the consternation of eyewitnesses who had urged the assailants to take the badly beaten duo to a nearby police station. Police were later alerted and the car was found with the injured persons inside the trunk. They were rushed to a hospital where Munroe died.
No one has been prosecuted in connection with the previous vigilante killing of Nigel Lowe whose badly beaten body was fount to tied to a utility pole on Section B, Sophia.
