ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The trial of Rodney Simmonds Jr and Yan Edwards has been traversed to the next High Court assizes scheduled to begin on October 8, 2013 following a request by Crown Prosecutor Mr Valston Graham today, July 15, 2013.

Simmonds Jr. had told the court that he has not been in contact with his lawyer Dr. J.S. Archibald recently. Senior Crown counsel Valston Graham said, however, that prior to today he was in contact with Dr. Archibald and they had discussed seeking adjournment to the next assizes as there were some challenges they needed to address.

Edward’s legal representative, Mr Stephen Daniels was present this morning in court.

Simmonds Jr. and Edwards have been accused of conspiring to murder Cornel Melbourne Francis aka Trouble on March 13, 2011 at Nottingham Estate. Francis had survived that shooting and Simmonds Jr and Edwards were accused of attempted murder and placed before the courts where they have been remanded since.

The attempted murder on Francis allegedly stemmed from a MoneyGram robbery incident in January 2011. Francis had initially told Police that he had no involvement in the heist of some $193, 409 but later admitted that he had taken some of the money and shared it with friends and that he had found the cash in some bushes shorty after the MoneyGram robbery in Road Town.

Francis, the leading witness in the case, was on witness protection for some time but had reportedly opted out and met his death on May 9, 2013 when he was gunned down at the Stickett in Long Look.
