ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force is notifying the public that under the new Firearms and Air Gun (Amendment) Act 2015, passed by the House of Assembly and assented to by the Governor, all shotguns and paint ball guns are prohibited. Current licenced owners are now required to hand these weapons in to Police.

Owners can apply to the Commissioner of Police for an exemption under section 7(2) of the Firearms and Air Guns (Amendment) Act 2015. Exemption can also be granted by National Security Council.

Prohibited also is any firearm made up in the form of a propelling pen or pencil, capable of being used for discharging gas, bullets, shot, dye or pyrotechnic flares or is capable of discharging any irritant in liquid, powder, gas or chemical form, any pyrotechnic flare or dye, or any article known as a paint ball.

Prohibited also is any firearm that appears to be some other article such as a walking stick, cane or key ring in order to disguise or conceal the fact that it is a firearm, and any cannon or other weapon which will expel a projectile by the action of an explosive or other propellant, even if it is intended for life saving or distress signaling purposes.

Prohibited also is any device known as a powerhead that can be attached to the end of a spear gun and is designed to propel a projectile by means of an explosive and any electrical weapon such as that which is commonly known as Taser.

You trying to tell us even the ver life saving flares on board these boats which are recommended by the us coast guard, abyc and shipping registery are prohibited and would have to be turned in? Then next you will tell us the chandlery will have to stop selling them or we boaters will have to get police exemptions to purchase them. And why are these even included in an "GUN" act the very lifesaving equipment? You guys really want us to die in this place

The sad part is that gun laws only affect law-abiding citizens. Criminals who don’t care about the law already, will not be affected and will continue to carry their firearms. So that leaves 500 police to try to protect 30,000 citizens. Bullcrap! EVERY MAN has a right to defend and protect his own life, family and property first. These nonsensical gun laws that just ban and prohibit everything down to a catapult are only leaving innocent citizens vulnerable and unprotected against criminal elements. Now a white man gets to decide if and how we should protect ourselves and family. Criminals have nothing to fear now!

I live in Texas and have taken and passed the concealed gun classes where we fire 50 times at the targets from various distances. The last time my permit expired I did not receive a notice that it was going to expire and just have not taken the time to sign up for another class. Last night I saw on the internet about the opportunity to get a permit on line. I took and passed the questions last night but for some reason I must have made some mistake when I was filling our the form to pay with my Discover card. They are going to contact me so I can correct my mistake, but this morning i have done some research as to whether or not this permit is acceptable in Texas or not. I have seen an article that said that Texas requires the in person class where we actually fire the weapon. If the On Line permit is not acceptable in Texas then I do not want to pay for the On Line permit. I must add that as I was growing up in East Texas My father and I did a lot of squirrel hunting. We always had a good squirrel dog. When our dog treed a squirrel my job was to go on the other side of the tree and shake some bushes or vines so the squirrel would move to the other side of the tree. on my 12th birthday my father bought me a rifle just like his a Remington Speedmaster that shoots nothing but 22 Shorts. He trained me very well about how to be safe with a weapon of any kind. I also was in the army and they also trained us very well about how handle to our weapon, By the way I am now retired, my Father has passed away but I still have the two Remington Speedmasters which were made in about 1940 and mine will be passed on to my son when I am no longer here. Although we no longer squirrel hunt for food.
