Shootings in STT & St Croix leave 2 victims injured

CHARLOTTE AMALIE, St Thomas, USVI- Separate shooting incidents in St Thomas and St Croix, US Virgin Islands on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 left two victims with gunshot wounds, the [US] Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) announced Thursday, February 9, 2017. Both victims were shot in the left leg.

On Wednesday at approximately 10:50 PM, the 911 emergency call centre reported a gunshot victim at the Roy Lester Schneider Hospital’s emergency room, according to VIPD Media Specialist Sakeeda Freeman.

Upon officers’ arrival to the hospital, contact was made with the victim, who stated that as he drove his vehicle in the area of Savan, he stopped to throw away his trash into a garbage bin and suddenly heard gunshots. The victim said he started running to his vehicle, and immediately after began feeling pain in his left leg.

The victim — who drove himself to the hospital — said he did not see anyone in the area and could not determine in which direction the gunshots came from. He sustained a single gunshot wound to his left thigh and was treated by an emergency room doctor for his injury.

Also on Wednesday, the 911 call emergency call center reported at 10:22 PM that there was a gunshot victim in the Walter IM Hodge Housing Community.

Upon arrival to the scene, officers observed a 21-year-old male victim who had sustained injury to the left leg, according to VIPD Public Information Officer Glen Dratte.

The victim stated that he was walking up the stairs to his apartment when he was suddenly shot. He was transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center by ambulance, according to Mr Dratte. The victim was listed as being in stable condition.

Police officers canvassed the area for suspects with negative results. Both incidents are under Investigation by the Criminal investigation Bureau (CIB).
