Shooting near ‘Tola Wharf’ in USVI leaves one dead

CHARLOTTE AMALIE, St Thomas, USVI — A man was shot to death in the vicinity of the Edward Wilmoth Blyden Terminal, known to many as the ‘Tola Wharf’, US Virgin Islands (USVI) at 11:25 pm on Saturday, May 18, 2019.

This is according to [US] Virgin Islands Police Department [VIPD] Public Information Officer Glen Dratte.

The 911 emergency call centre immediately dispatched officers to the scene after being alerted by a resident. Upon their arrival, officers met an unresponsive Black male lying on the ground next to a US Customers and Border Patrol vehicle, Mr Dratte said.

Details on the incident remain sketchy; it was not clear whether the suspect was on foot or in a vehicle when the shooting occurred. The VIPD said the incident is being investigated by the police force’s Major Crimes Unit.

The deceased was identified by next of kin as 29-year-old Curtis Q. Fredericks.

The V.I.P.D. is asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the Major Crimes Unit at 340-774-2211 ext. 5569, or 340-714-9830. You may also contact Crime Stoppers USVI with an anonymous tip.
