GREAT HARBOUR, Jost Van Dyke, VI – As they too are being faced with the consequences of economic hardship, residents of Jost Van Dyke cried shame on the National Democratic Party (NDP) Government, blasting them for not supporting local small contractors on the island.

This was an issue raised by residents at a community meeting of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) last night July 16, 2014 on Jost Van Dyke and further in an exclusive interview with Virgin Islands News Online.

Residents told this news site that they are at the peak of frustration as they alleged that the NDP and their government Ministers are blatant with their alleged culture of discrimination and victimization. One resident, who fearing further victimization asked not to be named, said that he had reason to approach a government minster about securing a petty contract on Jost Van Dyke.

“And you know that that minister told me? He told me straight to my face that I must go to Alvin (Hon J. Alvin Christopher) and the rest of VIP let them give me contract,” alleged the resident.

He further said that he was told by the very minister that they support those who give them a vote. “We know you is VIP and you didn’t put us here so how come you want us to help you,” the man recounted, saying that he was totally shocked at the response as there were several others around at the time.

But one resident did not cover his face at the VIP community meeting when he put similar concerns to the party Chairman Hon Julian Fraser RA, (R3). The man said it bothers him that several petty contracts were being given out for work on Jost Van Dyke but not to qualified persons that reside on the Island.

Hon Fraser certainly did not agree with such a process as he recalled taking heavy blows for insisting that small contracts be given as priority to rightfully qualified contractors that resided in a given community or on a given island.

Fact is petty contracts is what keeps this economy going. Fact is government has limited funds. Fact is the limited funds should go to qualified BVIlanders whatever their line of work or color of their skin. Fact is this is not happening. Fact is we are losing a lot of good people. Fact is the BVIlanders are the ones that have limited options when it comes to moving you have land, house, family and business here, where do you go?

Read Ephesians 4:32 - Even if you don't believe in God it's something good to practice

lines, including belongers property lines, and has gotten away with it. pink boy is a us citizen but had
to get someone to do this and got lots of jvd people po'd. how is it some foreigners get away with this,
while the majority have to abide by the rules when active in a foreign territory? some kind of chess game
with the local and international rules, for sure.
