Shaina M. Smith to run with NDP in upcoming elections!
Ms Smith will be running in the First District against the Virgin Islands Party’s senior member and candidate Hon Andrew A. Fahie. Another two candidates are expected to be contesting in that district.
Shaina flip-flopped?
Ms Smith has made a 180 degree turn after telling this news site in January of this year, via an exclusive interview, that she will not be running with the NDP and that “the country needs a new policy direction”.
In the same interview in January 2015 with this news site, Ms Smith claimed that “the PPA was in the process of organising a team to contest as a viable option in the next elations”.
However, early this month she flip-flopped and announced via a press release that her PPA will no longer contest the 2015 elections as her party was unable to recruit sufficient candidates to contest the polls.
Ms Smith never told the people of her new intentions in the press release; however, our news room was able to confirm that after a series of meetings with the NDP she is now confirmed as their candidate in the First District.
Ms Smith’s first time on the political stage was in 2011 when she ran At-large with the new founded PPA.
PPA dead?
The PPA has struggled to stay together after not getting any seat in the 2011 elections. Last year, another member Natalio D. Wheatley aka Sowande Uhuru bolted and joined another upstart party- the People’s Empowerment Party- headed by Hon J. Alvin Christopher (R2).
Months after the last election, another PPA member- Khoy Smith- became inactive.
Ms Smith, when contacted, said “no comment”.
NDP filling slate with one new member
Smith’s crossover to the NDP fills 2 of the 4 open seats to be contested by the NDP. With Smith now in the First District and long time hopeful Dr Hubert O’Neal in the ninth, the party is still debating its Second District candidate. The two names being debated so far are former candidate Claude O. Skelton Cline and Melvin ‘Mitch’ Turnbull who has started to campaign.
Kevin C. ‘OJ’ Smith will be back in the Third District, according to party insiders.
According to public opinion, the NDP is very unpopular, however, the voters are yet to see a viable alternative as of today.

She is like one of them chics on the Vegas strip educated and her price is CH*@P. She was b***ht right after the elections with an engineering contract. Politicians are mostly soul less and very cheap they go where the promise of money and power is greater.
Shaina can not be trusted because she proved that she could be easily b****t. What a shame.
with tax payers money how low will they stoop.
Is this news accurate? Is this the same Shaina that talked so bad about the NDP and wanted a different policy! It's amazing what a little b**be can do. Voters are getting wiser and wiser. Andrew Fahie is a good representative. Y'all better wheel and come again.
NDP has: Shaina, Mitch, OJ, Marlon, Myron. Where is the VIP's youth team? The country needs a new direction with the youth at the helm. They often say too young, but never too young to be used! I wish these youngsters the best in their pursuit of leadership positions in their country.
M*ron old hard back r@$$ could be regard as a youth bossie ayo go the hell go sit down and look real work to do from this hog wash from site to site..lot of mental case just reading some of deeds comments!
You will hear the news if you believe that rubbish. F**** will be Premier in Hog City, not Road Town City or BVI.
If you think these bloggers refreshing and blogging over and over with the same £$%^ will change anything, think again! NDP has young bright people on their slate. VIP has some recycled talkers on theirs. Let us see who the BVI voters will elect this time around. Fahie has been in power for 16 years, Fraser for 16 years, on PEP, Alvin has been in power over 20 years. They are now telling us what needs to be done in their Districts, after they have been representatives and even Ministers. Both Fraser and Alvin have both been Deputy Leaders, and they still telling us it's NDP fault why simple things are not addressed in their District. To the person talking about NDP hating District 1, you know that is NONSENSE!
at the end of the day it was all about the mo.$.y, the ndp must have p@1d her quite a som
FAHIE IS NOT IN ANY TROUBLE. HE WILL BE THE NEXT PREMIER.
