ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The National Democratic Party (NDP) today November 8, 2018, at its Executive Meeting heard that it has lost another of its members—Ms Shaina M. Smith, who also served as Chairperson of the party’s Women’s Association.

Ms Smith in her resignation letter addressed to the party’s Chairman and President said the move is with immediate effect.

She resigned as both Chairman of the Women’s Association and the party itself and is believed to have aligned herself with the Honourable Ronnie W. Skelton’s (AL) Virgin Islands Progressive Alliance (VIPA) wing.

Ms Smith is one of the organisers to have helped forced out, outgoing Premier and then party leader, Dr the Honourable D. Orlando Smith (AL).

The NDP has split and continues to suffer the loss of numerous stalwarts ever since the recent election of Honourable Myron V. Walwyn (AL) as its new Chairman and Leader.

I wonder which NDP? Because now she is going to an organization that is lead by a former NDP member. Whatever mess NDP made they made it collectively.

these folks all over the place yet wants to run this territory: looks like party affliction is more important than integrity and the love for the people: the people will vote for you if they truly think that you intend to do right by the people(does party affiliation have anything to do with it): recall the days when we did not have all of these various political parties but after an election folks got to gather then form an administration and that group did right by our people: the territory broke yet we have more political parties and splinter groups than ever: at the end of the day Great Britain will oversee the administration of the money in her territory and some of those hoping and making political promises might be in for a wake up call: Great Britain is not going to guarantee loans for her territory then allow incompetent persons to manage those funds: at the end of the day and the truth be told we are still a colony of Great Britain..it is widely speculated that many many million is currently unaccounted for

Clearly, the NDP is a dysfunctional hot mess. The electorate gave the NDP an 11-2 mandate in the June 2015 general election. How has the NDP manage to fall so low from such a mountain top high? Elections are about improving people’s lives and advancing the progress of a country/territory/region.....etc. A dysfunctional government cannot deliver on either.

Consequently, in the best interest of the people and the territory, Dr. Hon Premier D. Orlando Smith (AL) needs to dissolve the HOA and set an election date now. Further, there is no need to hold a special election in D-5 at this time, given that a general election is so near. Neither the legislative process nor effective governing will be harmed by maintaining the D-5 vacancy for a few weeks longer, for the government has an 11-2 advantage in the HOA. Spare residents the unnecessary hourly pain, shame and disappointment and let them vote and now.

Well she is smart to run at large as she doesn’t stand a chance against Andrew.

I believe that if Ronnie, Archie, Mitch and Dr Pickering were honest with themselves they would resign too. A divided government cannot serve the country effectively and efficiently. This is a crisis!

@ Political Observer (PO).. I think that there is a lot of political immaturity and "power tripping" going on. These fellas cannot control what they are not willing to confront. The political grab for power leaves a viod. A void where theit commitment to their constituents become a nagging question. Who do they represent? The populace? The status quo? The so-called rich white folks? Who?
In the end we all have to live here in these Virgin Islands if we chose to. The need has become a greed. Something is feeding it. There is nothing wrong with havinG the Integrity and will to do what's right for a progressive forwarding moving Virgin Islands. Seize the time. Be brave.
    Always appreciate your posts.

Time for the Queen to take control of the territory while it is still viable. Local rule has obviously failed and the hole gets deeper as the pockets get stuffed. BVI had a good thing going but greed raised its ugly head. Time to pull back, regroup and rebuild.
